EG4 6000xp CANBUS Comms with Victron Smart Shunt w/DIY Battery

Parallel canbus to multiple inverters is exactly what SMA sunny islands do. While there can be network segmentation in can bus the packets below 3FF are not gunna be special. They’ll still get the low level ACKs.

EG4 6000xp CANBUS Comms with Victron Smart Shunt w/DIY Battery

ummm that's not how canbus works..... a packet is sent and every single client on the line that recieved it correctly asserts the CAN-H and CAN-L line. Anyone who didn't decode the packet properly does nothing. So it doesn't matter if more than one client hears and ack's the message / packet...

AC coupling for a small community

It may be as simple as buying some old analog kWh meters the power companies got rid of. You know the ones with mechanical wheels.

AC coupling for a small community

I’ll try to cut to the core idea. Inverters make less power as frequency rises. If too many charger devices connect at once and the frequency is at 60.0hz I need the chargers to draw less power. So they are programmed to behave opposite of pv inverters.

AC coupling for a small community

You are making me think.... thanks! Let's say I have a grid forming inverter , let's call it the master unit. If it has a minimal battery on it and is keeping a pilot signal for the 240v grid at 62hz. Each cabin has a PV inverter that's AC Coupled. Once their batteries are charged their AC...

AC coupling for a small community

that's the thing... batteries are hte most expensive part. I want each house to have and be responsible for their own power use and batteries. I do not want cabin #6 running the community batter down each night and then cabin #3 can't make coffee at 5am for work. I guess my goal would be to...

Thanks,Dad, For Teaching Me to DIY Stuff

I taught my daughter many things... plug a tire. Brake job on a truck... and the most important thing she could have learned for the US electrical system... "black on brass will save yer azz".

Thanks,Dad, For Teaching Me to DIY Stuff

My dad was forever mad at me for losing his tools. about 10 years after I'd moved out of the house, I was riding in the back of their car... dad had an epiphany.. he was still missing tools and I hadn't been home in 10 years. He looked at my mother.... a light bulb went on in his head. lol

Thanks,Dad, For Teaching Me to DIY Stuff

When I was a kid radio shack was the place to get the things I needed. But in the late 90’s they started emphasizing cell phones over electronic components. I remember trying to substitute a transistor in the store for one they used to carry and listening to the salesman showing some woman all...

Thanks,Dad, For Teaching Me to DIY Stuff

My neighbor and his wife are mid-late 20’s. He’s working in process control at a paper mill, programs eps32 projects, does solar with me, flies fixed wing and helicopters and is a tig welder. Handy guy to have around. Not the normal 20-something.

Yes, people are that silly. Usualy the result of not having a father figure in the house. Single moms usually call a plumber or sparky to fix things and sons don't learn a thing.

AC coupling for a small community

Wow.. so many responses.. THANK YOU. The system will be based in the USA. Actually I have two different setups in mind.... 1)This idea is actually on behalf of a friend who wants to grow micro greens/ hydroponics. He has 45 acres and wants to create 6-10 grow houses. For him a...

EG4 6000xp CANBUS Comms with Victron Smart Shunt w/DIY Battery

Please tell me more about this... I presently send a falsely low SoC to my SMA sunny island to force it to connect to the grid. Interested in the modbus packets you sending.... I assume they are not sent on canbus, right? or is there a message number for them in CAN?

AC coupling for a small community

Searching for a brain storming session.... Let's say I have a dozen tiny houses on my property. Each house has it's own inverter, batteries and solar. But we want to link the houses together. Recently I posted that I was planning to link my daughter's tinyhouse to ours via a 600v/240v...
