Exactly, they have started installing smart meters though, once those are up and running they will stop with this system and who knows whats gonna happen then. My guess is they will start billing you twice for the use of the grid and only pay you back for the electricity part of the total price...
  • Post in thread: Can panels overpower charge controller?

Just as mrevesz said, the controller will just take 1400watt, even if you could take 1800 watt out of the panels. As long as the open circuit voltage and the short circuit current stay within the specs of the charge controller it doesnt matter if the wattage of the solar panels are larger than...
  • Post in thread: SOFAR HYD - Can you diy battery?

I did not succeed in trying to use the inverter with a bms without communication to the inverter. So i also bought the seplos bms, i connected everything and it worked right out of the box, its not a cheap bms but at least it works.

How can they make it illegal to capture rain? Here in Belgium all new buildings by law have to have a rain capturing system with at least 5000 liters capacity. Then again, we have to pay 125euro per kw per year that our solar inverter is able to deliver to the grid (regardless if you actually...

I'm planning on going for the victron phoenix inverters, these can be parallelled (or even put in 3phase which i might also do, not sure yet) I'm going to start off with one inverter and see how far i'm going to get with one, if it isnt enough i'll parallel a second one. But first i need to...
  • Post in thread: SOFAR HYD - Can you diy battery?

You need to set the sofar inverter to use batterybrand seplos instead of general settings. Have you checked the voltage? edit: like crossy just said, i meant pylontech which should be the default setting on the seplos bms
  • Post in thread: SOFAR HYD - Can you diy battery?

I'm using the 1phase hyd3600es on a 3phase connection, i live in belgium where we have the P1 port on our energymeter to read out the sum of all 3 phases. I'm using this in combination with this script i found: https://bitbucket.org/hotear/sofar-me3000-control/src/master/ to communicate with the...
  • Post in thread: Using an EV Car as your Emergency Backup Battery

Fridges and freezers are usually really efficient, so if you only want to save your food and be in the dark otherwise, you can get away with a really small battery and one 200-300watt solarpanel. Connect a 500watt inverter and you're good to go. My small freezer only uses .2-.3 kwh a day. I have...

What in the trailer? Is it like a foldout mini camper?
  • Post in thread: Off Grid Heat

How about an infrared heating panel. I used to use this panel in my previous bathroom before i had central heating. Worked like a charm, could be 18°C in the room and you still have a warm feeling even in bare skin if your in front of the panel. So instead of heating the space you're heating...
  • Post in thread: Can panels overpower charge controller?

You should keep within the specifications of the charge controller, you can find them here In it you can read the following: Max. PV short circuit current 60A ² ² A PV array with a higher sort circuit current may damage the controller This is the short circuit current of the panels, this is not...
  • Post in thread: 3 Phase

The victron multiplus does seem to be able to create a 3phase+N setup. I just found this image on google, so don't quote me on this.
  • Post in thread: Incrementally adding DC batteries

You have to be careful of internal currents between the parallelled batteries. I have an electric scooter with a 3kwh battery to which i have added a 2kwh battery in parallel, after i have been driving i can see that there's a current flowing from the one pack to the other. So while the voltage...
  • Post in thread: The shocking cost of Electricity

Apparently i noted some wrong numbers, the price varies per region and its per kva instead of kw, anywhere from 80€/kva to 113€/kva So the total price is lower than i initially claimed, but it's still a bitter pill to swallow
  • Post in thread: 24V or 48V

Hi, I'm planning on building a semi-offgrid system in my future shed that i'm building next year, and i'm already trying to plan a bunch of stuff in advance. One thing i'm not sure about however is if i should go for a 24V or 48V system. The pro's of the 48V system - Amperage divided by 2 so...

Does the blender actually use that much? Have you checked this with a power meter? Cause 1440W seems like a lot for a blender (at least it does to me)
  • Post in thread: Inverter capacitor charging spark!

Just take a lightbulb en put it between the cable and the battery, the lamp will limit the current, after a few seconds when the capacitors have been charged just remove the lamp and connect the batteryterminal.
  • Post in thread: SOFAR HYD - Can you diy battery?

I have just ordered the sofar hyd 3600-es and was searching info about your question. Have not found a result so i will just attempt it. I will post the results once i installed everything. I will test with 16 lfp cells (100Ah 48V system)
