    Cracked Panel Glass Repair

I broke the glass in a 20 year old 75 watt panel a couple of days ago. Not gonna spend any money on that thing, it's replacement (100 watter) is already on the way. but it still has good output, and none of the glass has started to fall out. So, what the heck--I started searching the house for...

Charging an AGM with Xantrex C-60 charger

Yeah. I hurt it. I think the internal resistance going from 1 to 4 says it all. It's been now on float since noon and I will check it when the sun goes down. but I don't expect much. Of course, it's not dead by any means. But I'd better stay on top of it now. I'm going to add another just like...

Charging an AGM with Xantrex C-60 charger

Yes. I use a voltmeter to set both float and absorption voltages. I have never needed to remove the caps, but they are not needed when using a voltmeter. But then you need an allen wrench to make the adjustment, without the caps..

Charging an AGM with Xantrex C-60 charger

C-60 uses 77F as neutral, and my batteries were probably 20 degrees below that.

Charging an AGM with Xantrex C-60 charger

I'm also temperature compensated, which can raise my charge voltage on a cold morning. My battery room is poorly heated. Is this recommended?

Charging an AGM with Xantrex C-60 charger

That makes good sense. My prior golf cart battery bank took a punishing, both in DoD and regular equalizations, my new AGMs won't tolerate. I have even installed an inverter that will tolerater 16.5 volts before shutdown so I could equalize at 15.6 volts. I gave the AGM an hour of 15.3 charge...

Charging an AGM with Xantrex C-60 charger

I have a new 12v AGM and am in the process of learning how to correctly charge it. Going from golf cart batteries, I can see it's a differnt ballgame, and I fear I already have made serious mistakes. All of my general questions were answered searching this forum. I came across some posts by...

    Baking Soda Desulfate?

Didn't work, guys. the T-105 seems to have lost some. the Napa is still on the charger, but voltage doesn't seem to want to climb above 6.5. Nothing lost though, and some knowledge gained. I'm only doing this out of desperation for more battery power. Next payday will see a new 100aH AGM, and I...

    Baking Soda Desulfate?

I strained the acid through 250 mesh, and reused it. These batteries were different in that one (Trojan 105) was quite old, and voltage was good but it had no power. Probably well crystalized. The other battery (Napa 8144) was manufactured in 2/18, but was well used in my off grid residence. It...

Second battery is on the charger. We'll see. I'll be back....

    Baking Soda Desulfate?

Then you would suggest a stronger solution? There's another possibility. I have the first battery drained. If I don't rinse it, there will be strong reaction between the sulfuric acid and the baking soda. Like this, would the plates get a faster scouring, as it were? I have nothing to lose, and...

    Baking Soda Desulfate?

Years ago, I had a dead car battery that I brought back to life by emptying it, flushing all the sulfiric acid out of it with an upside down rinse with a garden hose, and then filling each cell for a short time with a baking soda/water rinse. I've got some dead (useless in my off grid system)...

    Battery Bank Size

I like the sound of the lifepo4 advantages. Didn't know they were so light. Good news for old bones. And the DOD capacity is impressive. Would my Xantex C-60 charge controller still work with lithium?

    Battery Bank Size

For all that's been said here no one has explained why the number of equal batteries in a bank should be limited to four. Is this manufacturer specific?
