I've loved Signature Solar, but had to walk away...
Why? - Over a month ago they asked me to send an email with my 6500EX questions. The most glaring one was: 'Why does page 7 of the manual cite both bad & ideal values for Total Harmonic Distortion of voltage, (regarding electronic-equipped...
Jenna, at Signature Solar was amazing getting to the bottom of multiple issues:
My 6000xp installed great, but the screws that secure the PV wires failed the 2nd time I used them (had to unhook all wires to test that a spare unit was ok). On 3 of the 4 terminals, they failed to clamp when the...
@Richard/SignatureSolar After reading many similarly titled threads & 6 pages on this thread: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/eg4-6500ex-and-eg4-lifepower4-intermittent-61-error.41438/page-6 ... I'm pretty clear the conclusions reached by both Zapper_77 & 5275_Dude are compelling...
Pg 37 of the manual says Standby Mode is when the inverter is not on. This means that yes... the inverters will be off when it gets dark. There is no mention of any automatic turning on of the inverters. There is no AC output at all whether the sun is shining or not. One could argue the...
@jimT - correct... Previous success included no Earth ground, only a bonding between the various chassis. I don't think it matters what screw you use, though the screws intended for mounting to the rack should work just fine and should be quite safe to fiddle with. Good luck!
Thanks for your input. If inverters are <3% typically, how can it be that page 7 of the 6500EX's manual not only lists that exact spec but it also (at the bottom of the page) cites <10% for non-linear loads (like PCs, TVs & other electronics). And, to top it off, Signature Solar says they...
Can SS PLEASE post publicly these settings & other support resources that SS has amassed? Many of us have Lifepower4s & Sol-Ark inverters & we need easy access to the info you only share off-line! ie: 'How to implement closed-loop BMS communications'... & now 'How to wake up drained EG4...
Shouldn't all grounds be bonded into a single system with multiple rods to avoid ground loops? Would my understanding actually cause an issue because grounding solar mounts are an exception to the rule that I am unaware of?
I had the most bizarre road to getting mixed EG4-LL & Lifepower batteries to communicate with a new 6000xp... Only lead-acid mode would produce AC-Out at first. Flashing the firmwares didn't help. Finally we removed the LL, reducing the bank to just 2 Lifepowers, with all DIP switches down on...
@EG4_Jared Thanks for helping... Can you please share (or point us where to read) the details about:
* Battery wake up (not in manual or your pdf)
* Battery volt sample disable
* Start Quick Charge
* Force Discharge
* PV Isolation
In off-grid only use, is one or the other of the following...
I called Signature Solar with related questions and was told point blank to not hook up a low-cost, portable generator through any inverter. Unless you have proof your generator produces <5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), you risk frying sensitive electronics like the inverter (and if you're...
It seems the inverters have 2 sources of battery status: the direct connection of current carrying cables & the RJ45 battery-to-inverter communication cables, which you described weren't installed. Of those 2, it seems inter-inverter communication only looks at the latter for battery status...
I'm using an LL-V1 as master with 2 Lifepower4s communicating with my 6000xp. The LL had to be primary/master & all batts had to be patched to their latest firmware.
I'm assembling three 20a receptacles that will sit between 6 chargers and 3 of my generator's 4 120v outlets. The chargers will be wired to bus bars that are wired to the battery rack's bus bars.
While there's little risk to introducing a good, solid bond while running, it is equally likely the software (that controls the battery-to-inverter communications) won't reset & "pick-up" on the fact that something has changed until you do. Thus my vote is power everything down, then bond the...
@jimT - Do you have multiple batteries in a bank? Are they rack mounted? If yes & yes, can you check the tightness of each mounting screw to see if like others, you might have one looser than others? If you have no rack but do have multiple batteries, can you attach bonding wires to join the...
