The members of this gathering of solar power experts have been denied a great mind.
I am sorry my friend displayed too much capitalism in his description of controlling PV arrays during shading. I am certain his was not his intent.
It's YOUR loss, not mine. I will remain steadfast with his...
I recommended this site to an old friend of mine who has been researching PV shade mitigation.
I have no idea what he wrote that was considered "self-promotion" as his patented invention is not even on the market. He has been working on this for years and is still experimenting with it.
I am...
I dislike bashing a particular company. But this failure in the terminal connections wreak havoc on a s/p system.
You all have educated me. My system rebuilds will only include batteries of matching voltage to the system, ie: 24 vdc units or 48 vdc units. No more series/parallel for MY...
I simply posted this thread to get opinions regarding us poor slobs who "inherit" old systems and try to keep them dependable.
As I watched a new neighbor from Califorlornia spend in excess of $60k for a brand new off-grid system, I realized the $8k I spent (+shipping) to re-power TWO old...
I did consider doing this as I stated in the above post. But then the "lid" I cut off would no longer fit properly.
They must have had a good reason for doing this.???
Simply put, yes. See my photos.
These were abused. My EIGHT BB10012s in s/p for 48vdc have performed flawlessly for three years. I never see the voltage drop below 52vdc.
How naive am I. Although the inventory is Chinese, I assumed "Assembled in the U.S.A." meant something more.
When I was a curious lid in the 50s, "Made in Japan" meant pure junk. Then they named a manufacturing plant region USA.
That changed everything. Their products were the same, just...
They were loose alright. VERY loose.
I followed the original design, simply unscrewed the nuts and bolts, cleaned everything shiny, assembled with an anticorrosive conductor fluid and tightened the nuts as a 50 year journeyman mechanic would. Zero voltage drop.
Voltmeter showed 13.4vdc as soon...
Please, everyone bear notice here. I bought these BB10012s, eight here in my house and six in the rental. My system is 48v and the rental is 24v.
The six in the rental were abused, like a beaten dog.
I have yet to need to run the generator here at my house. I spent the other day cutting 2"...
After I repaired the loose B+ terminals on my BB10012s, I charged each one until at 14.4vdc, the amp draw was nil.
Then I connected a Renogy 12v 3kw inverter with a cheap (but it works) Hall coulombmeter and drained each one until the inverter shut down.
I used a home-made dehydrator that has...
I have been studying battery current flow. When I was a kid, my grandpa told me voltage/current is drawn from the negative terminal and the charge current goes in the positive terminal.
If this is true, that means the positive terminals are overheating due to too high charging amperage. But...
