It looks like $4k for 14.4kWh so I assume they give you 8 12V 150Ah. I would probably get 4 from this site for $2k https://absak.com/product/bolt-12v-100ah-silicone-battery/
  • Post in thread: Off grid cabin without batteries

I recently built an off grid 500 square ft cabin in the mountains and I'm looking to install some solar on a relatively tight budget. The cabin is unattended for months at a time and can get down to -20F in the winter, so I would really like to avoid leaving large batteries there (I would also...
  • Post in thread: Silicate salt batteries in series?

Yes, I know they say it's okay to use them as a 48V system but they're only sold as 12V so I'm wondering if putting them in series has any effect on their lifespan. Or if anyone knows anything about the chemistry of these batteries that would help inform how I manage/take care of them long-term.

Should I do this just once before wiring them together, or should I do it regularly? Is this just to make sure they have the same initial state of charge so when they discharge together one voltage doesn't drop too much before the others?

I'm leaning towards 48V too after doing more research on batteries. I'm hesitant to get a really big inverter like because of the cost and my DC loads. But I'm thinking it might be cheap/simple to just get a MPPT controller and separate 3kW non-smart inverter. There are pretty cheap 48-12 step...
  • Post in thread: Panasonic DCB-105 3.38kWh lithium ion smart battery

52V 3.38kWh (2.85kWh usable capacity) lithium ion battery with battery management system. This was used for less than a year and always kept in a temperature controlled environment. Selling because I'm downsizing the system to run on 20V. The only flaw I have noticed is that occasionally the BMS...
  • Post in thread: Silicate salt batteries in series?

I'm building an off grid cabin where temperatures get below -20F so I'm hoping to use silicone salt batteries. I'm going to have 3kW of solar which will require a 48V system but I have not seen any silicone batteries above 12V. I'm worried about possible cell imbalances if I connect 4 in series...
  • Post in thread: Off grid cabin system upgrade

I recently built an off grid cabin ~500 square ft near the White Mountains in NH. I installed 400W of solar, a 12v 50ah SLA battery and 30A charge controller, and roughly 150W of loads that are wired to 12v (I have LEDs that run on 12v, some phone/laptop/cordless tool chargers, and a composting...
  • Post in thread: 12V lighting

I used 3 of these mounted on the ceiling to light a 10x24 ft room and they work great. There's enough light that spills over into the adjacent room that I'll need less light there than expected too. https://www.lightbulbs.com/product/general-32331
  • Post in thread: Jackery 2000 to MC4 connectors 1200 watt

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has experience with charging a Jackery 2000 from solar panels other than Jackery panels? The Jackery 2000 can supposedly support 1.2kW of solar, more than any comparable brand I've seen, but I haven't found adapters from the input to MC4. I looked through other...
  • Post in thread: Off grid cabin without batteries

Inverting the power just to charge a DC battery seemed wasteful to me as well. I watched this video a couple days ago where someone got their leaf to charge directly from solar with a DC-DC boost and a circuit board that controlled the contactors. It's a bit beyond my technical ability, but...
  • Post in thread: Off grid cabin without batteries

Sounds like I'll probably have to get some batteries. I was hoping to keep it under 10k for the system (if that's reasonable). Any recommendations on batteries that last withstand those temps (maybe I'll post in that forum as well). I also have thought about burying a lithium battery in a root...
