  • Post in thread: Auction deal components without a plan

I'm old enough to know that the right way is to have a plan, then acquire components. That doesn't mean I do that. I am an auction addict, and have come across some deals on components that I could not pass up. I'd like to tell this group what I have and learn from your experience. First, the...
  • Post in thread: Upgrading APC UPS Battery

Mast, thanks for the info. I found a SURT8000, and several 192v battery packs at such a good price, that I had to buy them. I've been pondering how to get them set up right, and your info goes a long way to getting me there.
  • Post in thread: New project newbie

I run a similar use on a 40' shipping container. It is my man-cave on our remote property. No math here, I just used leftover parts I scrounged up. I put two pieces of Unistrut across the roof and mounted two, 305 watt panels on them. Overkill, but I had them laying around. I wired them parallel...
  • Post in thread: Got Tractor?

I'm in Heber, AZ at about 6,700 ft. Only have 3 acres, but don't know how I could do without my Kioti 3510. Gannon, Loader and grapple attachments.
  • Post in thread: Cheapest drop in lithium iron phosphate battery.

I found a 138ah Valence 12v on Ebay for just under $600 delivered. Heck of a battery.

I guess the right term is hard wire terminals, labeled L1, L2, and neutral. That is the plan, currently. :)

One of these. https://www.apc.com/shop/us/en/products/APC-Smart-UPS-RT-8000VA-Rack-Tower-208V/P-SURT8000RMXLT6U It is designed for continuous battery power conversion to AC for computer servers and data centers. Up to 10 additional battery packs can be daisy chained for a lot of battery backup...
  • Post in thread: Auction deal components without a plan

I look at the way my house in Las Vegas is fed that way. I'm not an electrician, but it seems like I could do the same. The APC has 208 server outlet plugs, but it also has 240 hard line terminals. I assume I could wire those directly into my panel. Looking for any advice and ideas. I'm a...
  • Post in thread: Small battery (garden tractor, generator, motorcycle…) trickle charge setup?

I have several of the little $20 trickle chargers. They put out 1.5 watts and I just clip them right on the battery terminals. No charge controller. Haven't had a dead battery since on my least used items.
  • Post in thread: Need recommendations for LiFePO4 engine starting battery

I had an extra Valence XP battery from a project. The 138 amp/hour version. It is the same size as a Group 27 car battery. I dropped it in a boat and it works great.

golden, you pretty much nailed it in a few sentences. I was thinking that the APC unit would be the last link, and would leave me pure sine power. Still working it out.
  • Post in thread: Auction deal components without a plan

Yes, most commercial servers run 208. I have another APC product called a SURT003 that is a 208 to 110 transformer.
  • Post in thread: Safety cutoffs for Valence

I'm impressed. I was hoping a system would be simpler, but as I learn more, I realize that I have a lot more bases to cover for a safe, reliable system. You seem to have covered them.
  • Post in thread: Nuthin but the Fridge?

I have a setup that does what you are describing. Not cheap, but I built it with leftover parts, so it was cheap for me. I put four panels on the roof of a shipping container. They are 305W each. They run into a Midnite Classic 250 that came from an auction. Those charge a pair of Valence XP...

Because that is what the inverters are. Price was right. I don't have to use all three legs, but I will. The APC backups are all 208 volt.
  • Post in thread: inverter charger possible modes of operation

I'm kind of a newb at the this, but I have a SMA Sunny Island, and I believe it has all those modes of operation.
  • Post in thread: Putting solar trailer to use

I picked one up fully loaded, with the generator and the light towers. It works so well I'm giddy about it. Couple of cloudy days and the generator just kicked on all by itself and did an equalization charge. I love this thing. Two, 540amp hour, 48 volt batteries is a lot of juice.

1.5 watts is barely enough to keep them charged. If it will cook off the electrolyte, I would imagine that would take years.
