Hi Everyone. as a part of my residential install research, I have spent weeks working to understand the laws/requirements for solar panel installations on the roof of an occupied dwelling (ie; a home) in the United States. Bottom line-- you need to have a listed solution to all of these...
Since installing my PV system this summer I have been starting to pay a lot more attention to solar conditions, overall. needless to say, for the past almost 3 weeks now... my 2kw array has produced between ZERO and 0.8kw a day.
the cloud cover has been so thick that at peak production, I'm...
This project was a ton of fun and my first real dive into solar. I have a 25w QYT KT8900D for emergency comms purposes that I wanted the ability to quickly take anywhere. The added goal was to have both 12v and 120v power available as a solar generator for camping and grid-down situations. I...
anyone have tips/tricks for finding roof trusses without drilling holes? a "normal" stud finder does not work through the shingles and 3/4" ply.
i'm thinking of using some magnets. climb up into the attic and place a magnet on each side of a rafter, then go up on the roof and use a magnet to...
hi everyone,
so, working on continued planning and trying to nail down wiring from my roof junction box to PV disconnect near the inverter. i'm in michigan.
NEC approved flexible MC armorlite a while ago for attic use. yay --...
hey everyone! first post and great to meet you all. i'm Eric.
I was about to pull the trigger on a complete 48v off-grid system to power our refrigerators and freezers, but have not found any real information on a "DIY" solution for module level rapid shutdown. I am keeping my system all...

Along the same lines, many/most AHJs are requiring that only licensed electricians can pull permits for solar installs.
here's the legislation from NM...
hello everyone, i'm still in the planning phase of a DIY 2kw off-grid system. the wife and I have been debating the array position, and i think we've agreed on a particular space, but wanting to confirm setbacks/pathways which I'm sure will eliminate the particular space we've chosen.
based on...
I have a SquareD 240v panel I'm installing and planning to power from my Growatt 3000. I am going to run the 120v out to a 40amp breaker which takes one slot and powers one leg of the 120v panel, and will have 3 live slots and 3 dead slots since it's a 240v panel.
okay? anyone know? --...
hey everyone, I am starting this thread to document my progress on installation. so, here we go. I will post updates as I complete work.
I'm in michigan. Suncalc shows 208deg azimuth and 28deg tilt. PVwatts estimating peak production of 6500wh per day.
Core components:
2kw PV array - 8x...
Hi everyone,
I just got my Growatt LVM3000 24v up and running, and I can't make any sense of the dashboard.
the daily load consumption graph stopped at 3.7kwh. refreshing the dashboard never changes it. historical data for yesterday shows a total load output power of 51078, which I assume is...
Hi all... need a sanity check on my system planning at a component level. i'm in Michigan, so definitely have to contend with winter temps.
all-in-one inverter/mppt:
Growatt spf-3000tl-lvm-24p

PV input= 30-115

okay... so in the world of residential install, we all know the AFCI and RSD requirements. This is potentially the first off-grid string inverter compatible and UL listed solution. Does anyone know anything about it?
from Alte - "The OutBack Power FLEXware ICS Plus DC Combiner Box with PV...
I just wrapped up the install on my Midnite classic. fired it up, set the charge limit amperage to 45amps (only 8ga battery wire currently)
I confirmed the wire is 8/2 MC dual THHN/THWN and the amp rating at 90degC is 55amps for typical ambient temp
at any point I hit 40-45amps of charge...
I'm getting rid of my Growatt in favor of separate components.
is Giandel still the "standard" for entry-level pure sine inverters? any other recommendations?
I really would like a grid-assist charging feature, so suggestions there would be appreciated
here's my current sytem

I'm planning to add:
1x Midnite classic 200 SCC
1x 24v CHINS 100AH in parallel with the other two for a single bank total of 300ah
4x 250w...
in my DIY 24v system I have a Growatt 3000 24v that I am not utilizing the SCC on. I have my 2kw roof array charging the battery bank with a Midnite classic 200. I'd like to add a 1kw array optimized for winter and take advantage of the SCC on the Growatt i'm not using.
Any foreseeable...
hi everyone. I have my Growatt in hand and reviewing the manual. in battery connection section for the 24v model it recommends a single 2AWG wire(38mm2). that seems small to me.
it has a 6kw 5sec burst capability, and 24v 200amp minimum battery capacity. manual says max of 141amps. based...
I have my Raspberry pi and system all working. I disconnected the pi from the inverter to finish the case install with heatsinks. i rebooted everything and now SA can't connect to the Growatt. It sees it fine via USB as a compatible device, but I keep getting this error. Any ideas why?
My father and I continue to be at odds regarding lifepo4 safety. he is insistent that it is inherently unsafe citing all the tesla fires/failures and inability to contain/stop runaway combustion, as well as insurance companies failing to issue payouts to owners and requiring them to park EVs...
