My local Solar guy bought new Life4PO batteries from Ford and according to him they burned his entire house down so he pushes 6 volt golf cart and says you better store these 4 things outdoor. I know nothing but this is what he told me.

I am sure there is another side to the story that he is too embarassed to admit, such as a poorly wired EVSE. LFP does not catch fire on its own. It can still cause wires to overheat and start fires if not adequately protected by overcurrent devices.

EDIT: From subsequent comments, it appears these may be used EV batteries (NMC chemistry) from a Ford EV. Without the factory BMS or suitable alternative BMS there may not have been any protection for the pack to prevent over charging or over discharging a cell or the entire pack.

Maybe it's a Ford thing. He was using them to build systems and the new stock sitting idle just went up so he tells me. I aksed him 3 times they were Life4 and he said yes but what do I know...He claims his entire home is gone... I could drive 15 miles to check the lie meter.

Interesting, but more info is needed. Is he willing to provide the specs?
I know of a guy who made the same claims upon investigation, it turns out the batteries were Lithium Ion(Li-ion).
With poor wiring and no over-current protection or BMS.
So that was just a recipe for a time bomb, which eventually went off on its terms.

Sadly, many have zero clue of the different variants of lithium ion...

Consider lifepo4 to be as dangerous as firewood...

PLENTY of power to cause a poorly designed setup to start a fire, but needs flaws to do it.

Only way a pile of them could cause a fire is if they were crushed, or shorted out.

If he is pushing 6v golf cart batteries, he has a lot to sell.

Since when does Ford use LFP ?
I think he may be pulling my leg and they were regular Lithium, Battery Hookup was selling Ford EV batteries for a great price but last time I talked to them they said they don't push regular lithium batteries anymore just for the reason of this. Yaa, if he is lying to me should I burn his new house down?

That would explain a lot. Even Tesla has transitioned the Powerwall 3 to LFP. It will still take some time for the building officials and Fire Marshalls to recognize the difference.
We will have to put Fire Marshall Bill on this immediately, he will straighten it out in a flash...

You've written LiFePO4 about 5 different times in this thread.

Lithium batteries come in many different variants.

And yeah I have a feeling he just didn't write stuff up correctly and/or over charged the NCM packs thinking they were LFP.
