Philips may have created the best LED bulb yet

No, he is not the only one.
As noted, just because something is not important you you, does not mean it's not important to someone else. Not just regarding bulbs, but anything. I have zero interest in being off-grid, but I won't ask "who cares?" every time some posts about how they like being off-grid.

Also, Phillips must think others care too or they would not be making them.
Manufactured demand. Are you in the habit of holding lightbulbs in your hand? Is that a thing?

If it's not then why does it have to be glass.

Look and feel lol.

To the question why not just use incandescents;
Too much draw for lighting off grid if not required.
On grid I would still be buying them if they were still available, at least for some applications.
They are (in Europe!). I bought some for "mashinery" last year. There is one industrial supply shop in a town nearby and they still have all sorts of incandescent bulbs. They look like normal domestic bulbs, but are in fact different voltages. From low voltage (36V or 48V, through 120V up till the normal 240V). The only ones that are truly unavailable are the ones with power over 60W.

Why do I buy them? I really have mashinery (lathes, mills) that takes these kinds of bulbs.

This site is so blessed to have a wide range of experts. Having a lightbulb expert is just an added bonus.

The solid sound of car door slamming. So Japanese cars were engineered to deliver what consumer wants.
It was difficult to describe to a new passenger in my first gen Miata exactly what it means to close a door gently. Yes you heard what I said, but what you're about to is get out and slam it "gently".

I liked the glass feel too and was actually surprised, for a split second I thought I been had! I ordered some others similar and they were marketed as non breakable, same look, shape, and filament, but plastic case...
Once I put them in I haven't touched them since except for dusting....

Japanese cars used to be cheap and tinny, not solid like Real American Cars.
I understand their automakers sent people over here to see what consumers valued.

Apparently everyone is getting into the act now:

Except for my 99 Camaro. That door is very not solid sounding despite being large and heavy. Must be the fiberglass structure. There is practically no metal in it save the crash bar and the lock linkages lol.

Manufactured demand? lol

I do hold it when I am going to put it in.

Aesthetics for those that have vintage fixtures.
Not sure why that is so hard to understand. <shrug>

If only these were more widespread.

I hate seeing 6-10w for 600-800 lumen as the plateau of efficiency.

He identified as a lamp shade?

(If you're not from California you may not get it. Let's just say we have extensive mandatory education.)

And this is the product of that education system? lol

No, the education (that I've received) is about acceptance of coworkers, including during their transition.

I can't speak to what is taught in grade school. Can't be sure of what we read in the news, either, since it is spun.
(Of course, we also can't believe everything we see. But almost nothing is unbelievable either.)

I'm sure when the first incandescent lightbulb came out there were those who felt it was "proliferating complexity". I'm sure they felt candles and lanterns were better, yet, the march of progress is unstoppable , and inevitable
in some senses, candles and lanterns were/are “better”
Society averaged 10hrs of sleep, people had a properly functioning circadian rhythm, and people weren’t debt slaves

Was there a DIY Lightbulb Forum back then?

Candle making is still a thing. Shake off the shackles of foreign battery manufacturers! Who needs LiFePO4 or LED to see at night?
