Renogy Scum!!!!!

mine was a different model, but it seems it doesn't matter what model, they are all toilet
Would you consider opening it up, even if you had to physically cut it, and balancing the cells? At some point after days of dealing with something, no longer worth my time, they win.

FWIW, I bought some individual 50 ah cells and case and busbars and BMS to build my own, and there was very little cost difference for what I see in the US for the Renogy 50 ah battery and the from China cells, case, BMS, etc. I do know the quality I'm getting from a reputable Chinese dealer.

Ya mean the same company that sold me my first new panels 3-4 years ago and when I hooked them up “1/2 “ the mc4 connectors on them crumbled or broke in half in my hands like a potato chip..?
What’s up with people here having mc4 connectors “crumbling”? (Second thread in a few days mentioning that) I have Renogy panels that are over 15 years old and some that are a year old, and never had a connector break in half, let alone “crumble”. I can’t speak for their batteries, but I have had zero issues with their panels or charge controllers. <shrug>

I doubt I will ever be accused of being a Renogy fanboy ,for sure …

BUT….
I will admit that the battery I bought from them 3 years ago has actually done pretty good .

It went on my RV tongue to replace two other FLA ones I wanted to use elsewhere.

…it is only one battery..an AGM…it was meant to be a temporary item Untill I figured out where I wanted to go with bigger stuff on the RV … (so much for temporary..)

But the next year I got distracted while starting to work on my solar set up and sorta forgot about the RV batt…for about 2 years solar became the main focus .

The AGM , I haven’t really messed with it , My Fault ……..its just sitting on the bow riding off the RV converter minding its own business…floating it’s life away… I mostly forget it’s even there.

In do cut off the grid or external solar power to the RV now and then to run it down abit …. then let it go back up and float again…

I think it’s about 100 ish amps … it was about 275 bucks IIRC …from Amazon..

If it fails tommorow I won’t complain , but next time I will by larger and more battery’s.

Shucks, it may last 5 or 7 more years …who knows…

So to offset my bitchin about Renogy and their mc4 connectors ,to be fair I should admit it appears they can sell a regular battery that works………so far , anyway…

I probably paid a bit more than if I had looked around..I don’t know…

I just wanted somthing to stick up there that didn’t have vents ,didn’t care about the temperature out here and fit in the battery trays….

Guess it did what I was lookin to do…

I have seen this crumbling and breaking stuff happen in electronics and wires ,plugs and cords before but only if it is old as hell or overheated extensively or UV exposure but never on new gear…

I bought a 300 dollar pair of Nordica mid calf snow boots in 1980 that were leather from ankle up and some type rubbery / plastic lower and sole area …( very good stuff).

Left em in my parents house closet for 9 years while I sailed off to explore the world.

years later I came home and when emptying my closet I found my boots in their own box..
When I pick them up the leather tops separated from the bottom half which fell in a pile of small pieces about the size of large black ants… totally crumbled from sitting in a climate control closet during the 80s….???…. I dunno.

so …….?

As far as the mc4 connectors,

maybe I was the one who got a left over box of some new old stock ..?

Maybe it was a bad mix that day from the trainee mixing people …?

Maybe some one there split soy sauce in the plastic mixing machine... .?

I have no idea..? I just know what happened…,!

WELL GUESS WHAT ?????
Renogy SAID I would be getting a refund in 7 days!!!!!

I would, once the cash is in my bank, open up the battery and try and have a play.
ONLY too many hours into playing and it's not worth my time>

but what else to do with a free half capacity battery ????

Just order a 60a JBD and plug it in. The cells are fine, BMS not so much. I find cutting the case at the seam much neater and easier than prying it apart…. I Use a hacksaw
So does that mean Renogy isn’t scum?

If it still works... if you added it in parallel with another would it cause issues?

Never played with adding a BMS

av you got a link to that BMS you mentioned plz ???

is it plug and play ??

Why 7 days?

Long story,
I purchased it Via Evilbay, credit card is my linked payment.
Renogy after a four week fight said they would pay me via paypal and it can take up to 7 days total,
I guess three odd days for Renogy team, then paypal

Ok just seemed suspicious. I hope they follow through!

It not uncommon practice for shady companies to kick you down the road until warranty expires.

Ebay are not interested, my credit card compony are not interested because I purchased it through a platform

You CC is scum also I have done charge backs even using paypal with ebay but paid with my card. They tried to scam me and I won.

Is this a local bank issued CC? Might want to look into other options. Should not matter you paid through a platform. LOL

Good Morning

Thank you for your e-mail regarding EBAY O*16.

I have completed my review of your claim under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. Whilst the Bank fully accepts its responsibilities and liabilities under Section 75, the Act is quite specific in that before the creditor (the Bank) is liable, the debtor (yourself) must establish a claim against the supplier for misrepresentation or breach of contract.

The Bank’s liability lies with the company who processes the transaction to your account, in this case, that is EBAY.

Under the debtor/creditor/supplier relationship, EBAY have fulfilled their contract with you as they are an e-commerce platform that enables third party sellers to sell products. Your dispute is with the seller, Renogy UK and as confirmed above, the Bank has no relationship with them and therefore cannot be held liable for their breach of contract.

I trust this clarifies the Banks position and I hope that you are able to resolve this dispute to your satisfaction in the very near future.

Regards

Must be an UK thing. Never had that issue in the US. Strange. They are stating you have the product. But I would fight because it not working. They should let you ship it back if you are in the window for a refund.

I don't buy stuff from ebay much anymore. They are scum as it is.

WELL, drum roll !!!
I got my refund whoop whoop

now what to do with the dud battery????

Do I try and find a compatible cell balancing BMS ???
