Hi DIY Solar Power -I've been very interested in the Electrodacus and came across this video on "The Cell Doctor" company trying to knock it off. It's an indiegogo something like kickstarter. Here's a video. What you guys thoughts? I'm very much a supporter of Dacian and the work he has done

Go to his forum. They asked.... he is open to. but he doesn't know the specifics of their clone.

It's not a ripoff. A ripoff would be going behind Dacian's back, buying one, taking it apart, finding out what makes it tick and then making them without his blessing. At least according to the clip they have contacted him and even offered to assist in the manufacture of Dacian's particular hardware design. Plus Dacian's project is open so it's clear that there wouldn't be a problem even if they actually did just take the specs and start bashing them out.

I sent Dacian and ask about them. I will let you know what he says.

Dacian's Google group discussing this unit
Electodacus
Ya, looks like Dacian is aware and getting a percentage. Trying to go into mass production in China. Not sure about quality yet. Oh well, this is how things go. Hope this is good for Dacian which it may very well be!

Hey guys, lots of heat on the topic of copying the original design.
I am Alex, the guy behind all this trouble...

We did test both versions, SBMS40 and SBMS0 and they work to spec, burned a few by trying to use a 3KW inverter, but then we discovered that the original design has the same issue with the huge in rush current drawn by the inverter. Other than that, we did not have any issues.

The original design is a work of art indeed, but we did not try to knock off Dacian's design, he's already making that so people that prefer his design, will order from him directly.

If you have any questions, I will be happy to assist.

All the best!

Alex

Current don't go through this BMS so how did you burn it?

Oh ok, sorry, I forgot the SBMS40 was very different from the SBMS0 ;)

Obviously I understand now how it happened.

They are not very different. We managed to get it working on the same pcb, removing the power part and adding another 2 pin connector for the external shunt. A 0 ohm resistor and the firmware runs well and performs good.

We have 5 x SBMS40 in stock that we want to giveaway for review. Let me know if anyone is interested. We will also cover the shipping cost.

Tomorrow I want to make a video and announce that.

We also have a few other projects that we developed ourselves, the bluetooth monitor, laptop battery reader and a headless bms.

Getting your feedback on those will be highly appreciated.

Thanks for your time!

I would love to evaluate the SBMS0, if that one is also in your evaluation plan. I'm using Chargery BMS right now in a couple of RVs. I'm not overly thrilled with Chargery.

How about a 48v nominal variant?
I discussed with Dacian about this, and he said that he prefer staying to 24V because of safety concerns. There will be significant rework to make it work in Master-Slave mode, and there are newer IC's that supports multiple cells.

His main concern was the fact that people will have to use 60-80V solar panels and that kind of DC voltage can be dangerous.

We are prototyping a BMS that goes up to 15s, has gauge and gives a wide range of functions though the BQStudio connected with EV2300 interface. We will then have to develop a software to allow easier configuration without the EV, as that's quite expensive.

The gauge chip allows up to 320A DC side, but for the purpose we are building, should be enough.

Hi, we only have SBMS40 from the prototype batch, we will make some extra SBMS0's as well if the campaign goes through with the first funding and will make some available for giveaway.

Hi Alex,

I would certainly be interested in testing / evaluating the SBMS0.
I appreciate the use of the Bluetooth module as that is a popular request from many users. That's a good add-on to have.

I have not watched all your video's as yet but I am wondering IF you have also designed a Pre-Charge circuit for high load devices such as Inverters & Motors. The precharging for many devices is often where a lot of BMS' essentially drop the proverbial ball as it were. If you've incorporated something on-board, it would be wise to highlight that small yet important detail.

Thanks
Steve_S ~ aka, the chargery guy...
