AiLi Battery Monitor

After seeing Will's youtube feature on AiLi Battery monitor I ended up getting the 350A one and fitted it today to the caravan. It works very well but I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer.

Due to a small current flow to the hard wired CO/gas alarm the backlight of the AiLi screen won't go out, if I disconnect the alarm the backlight goes out but as soon as I reconnect it the backlight comes on.

My issue is that with the screen lit up it lights up the inside of the van at night which is rather annoying, so I was wondering can the backlight be turned off somehow or can the backlight on current setting be adjusted slightly higher. There is nothing in the info that came with the monitor.

Specs:
Current 350A,
Backlight on current 150mA
Backlight off current 110mA

thanks
Scotty

I agree it can be annoying at night. The backlight light operates when the battery is discharging or there is charging from the CC occurring. The light pulses when charging and on steady while battery is discharging. It goes off only when your battery becomes fully charged and there is no longer charge current being drawn from or inputted into the battery, which is also indicated by the up (charge) or down (discharge) pointer next to the numbers. There is not an option to turn off the light in either situation as far as I know. It draws very little power when on and even less when off, not a problem. I made a simple small cover for mine for when I’m sleeping. ? ✌️

Thanks MrN I thought as much:rolleyes: I think I'll just put the meter in a place that doesn't cause any problems at night or as you have make a cover for it.

thanks again for the response.

I found a great way for mounting the Aili meter. I had a couple of these left over from a diesel gauge install that are usable in any mounting position. Just turn the meter to the orientation of your mount. Flat, under the shelf, or side mounted. I had to open the hole a tiny bit by putting a small round file in my drill and grinding in a circle a little at a time until the meter fit snug. They run about $5-6 on Amazon. That's strange. With a load, mine shuts off after a few moments and needs to be "woken up" by pressing the middle button. Maybe something in the programming?

That is odd. Mine stays lit while showing power going to the load or pulses when charge is going into the battery. Only goes off when there is no charge/discharge occurring?? ?

Oops! My mistake. I just went out in the garage to test my system as to whether light on panel shuts down. If charging or sending current, it stays illuminated. Sorry

Question: How did you guys wire this thing up? I put mine (i.e. shunt) between my solar charge controller and my batteries, but I'm only seeing charging amps (not discharging amps).

You need to have your loads connected to the shunt as well to get discharging amps. See the green box I added below to the diagram I scanned from the install instructions. You wire both your charger negative and your load(s) negative to the shunt terminal on the right.

In both my installs I have a very short wire coming from the battery bank negative to the shunt B- (the left shunt terminal as shown above). Then all other negatives connect to the shunt P- (the right shunt terminal in the green box) either directly or via busbar/terminal block.

I have my new AiLi wired per the diagram above. Have set battery capacity at 200Ah. But, cannot set battery percent to 100%? Thus, will not show % charge reading. What am I missing or doing wrong? Anyone have a suggestion?

Holding the two outside buttons(V and %) down for a few seconds turns the light off.
