One day I found myself 20 miles from anywhere with a dead car battery. So I scrounged around and found a tool battery and 2 paint bucket handles. Connected tool battery to car battery and 20 minutes later cycling between 2 tool batteries I was able to start my truck.

Since then My satellite radio will drain my car battery if I leave it on over the weekend so I modified an old drill handle with some alligator clips and have an emergency jump starter.0210200659_HDR.jpg

Just had to use it this morning.

I open one west and one north facing window at night in the summer.
In the morning close them and close off the bedroom area before it warms up.
Usually means I don't have to run the AC until midday rates.

Also we use a flavour wave cooker instead of the oven for just about everything.
Its faster than the oven and only ~1300 watts.

Where I live, it almost *always* cools off at night so I put in a 30" whole house fan that sucks air out of the house and into the attic. In the evening when it gets cool I open the windows and turn on the fan. It will cool the whole house off in just a few minutes. I leave the fan on for several hours. In the morning I turn off the fan and close all the windows. Most days I don't need to use the air conditioner at all, even when it gets hot outside.
