When a solar enthusiast and a welding enthusiast really love each other (Warning - Photo heavy!)

Nice work. Was gonna say, you're gonna blowout your sphinctum picking that thing up but you are obviously aware of that.?

What area is your camp?

We were gonna buy up around Chesaw awhile back but the passes have gotten so bad in regards to traffic it just takes the fun out of any kind of travel that way.

It's across the river from a little town called Tiger, close to Ione. The last hotel before the Canukistan border.

The easy way to deal with the passes is to take at least 2 weeks between directions over, preferably 4. :giggle:

That is a good solution to that problem!

You weren't kidding about NORTH EAST. You must hunt that area?

I'm still looking. I have a recreational property on the coast, now I just need one inland where it's hot and dry. The basin appeals less to me than it used to so we moved the search further east to Idaho but I think everyone else did too.

$5.39 a gallon gas isn't helpful when fueling motorhomes and towing trailers. ?

I would love to, but shipping season always overlaps hunting season. I almost got to go turkey hunting out there a couple years ago but was tethered to my phone for work so I couldn't be anywhere without cell reception.

Good luck with that! Land in Idaho is stupid expensive!

Or packing solar components and a 3zillion ton battery, ATV, full size truck, food, really anything. It's the kind of place that makes EV's useless.

It's a nautical technical term yes and I have no way of getting an exact weight. Even if I could find a scale big enough around here to fit it, there's no way I'd be able to move it and I only want to disassemble and reassemble it once.

If I can find the original steel receipt I might be able to get a rough calculation though...

200lb , or under 100kg , not that heavy... you're a big man, should be able to just pick that up and walk off with it ! ? no excuses

Twice the weight of LiFePO4 alone.

I could'a had an AGM! ?‍♂️

8.5kwhs worth of my gel traction batteries weighs about 265kg (585lb~) and that's if you're going 100%dod

So I needed a 24v case capable of 300Ah cells and Seplos wanted about $800 for their case and the special cables but no low temp cutoff, no heaters, no active cooling... weeeelllll... I have a welder!

So first I got out the paints and painted them up real pretty... then drilled them like they'd never been drilled before!

Then I swung my hips for a little bumping and grinding...

I wasn't sure until I played around a bit if it was even going to all fit in there...

Yup! It all stuffed in there nicely! Blew some slag all over it and I needed a cigarette and a nap!

Make 1 for a 16s and give me a price, I have cells no BMS or case yet.

I had a snowmobile trailer door frame rust out. I thought going up a gauge in steel thickness for the frame would help longevity.

There is a reason other than cost savings they use such thin steel for trailer and ramp door frames.

The lift springs needed several extra turns to aid in lifting the door now.? I'm afraid for the lifting cables everytime I open the thing.

Flat plates have to be thick for strength.
Ribs could be added.
Shapes can stiffen it, like corrugated roofing.
Composites, like two thin sheets of metal and something light in between would too, That is how sheetrock works (except for the weight aspects.)
Honeycomb core is another approach.

Yup but never underestimate the convenience of using what you have on-hand.

Metal dealers are few and far between.

Well it all finally got together (for the most part) today, much nicer looking wiring inside. Re-wiring that push button was a real PITA but it worked.

Oddity, when I turned the BMS back on it just sat there beeping and buzzing at me. I had to look it up and found another thread on here with a similar problem. Holding the button down for a few seconds a few times reset whatever it thought was wrong and it came to life. I really REALLY hope that doesn't happen again in the field.

EDIT: The heater pads I was expecting in October say they were delivered today. It looks like I'll be installing those on Monday! Woot!

Then once those are tested, the whole thing gets disassembled and packed back into the shipping boxes for the Great Trek East!
