    Testing parallel batteries

My trailer has 2 SOK206 in parallel, to a common posts. All cabling is equal length, each battery fused off the positive. For purposes of testing capacity/ charge/discharge limits etc individually, is it sufficient to pull the fuse to isolate from my system? That is simpler than actual...

Solar has been hijacked/co opted. A wakeup?

From my reading, the early days of solar were adventurous 'stick it to the man' types. Offgrid/ back to the land... Now, it's more of "I can save $ .01 by tieing into grid, get some subsidies/grants from government. Meaning, someone else's money. Is this pretty much in line with all the anti...

    SOK Capacity/Charging Issue

After many days of troubleshooting, my recently aquired new SOK 206 is 'frozen' at 13.5 volts while charging. I have it installed parallel with my previous 206. I have individually taken them down to (first inverter then) BMS cutout. I charged each of them back to about 13.2 with an AC 25 amp...

    Low voltage disconnect for inverter

The Victron BP65 low voltage disconnect is installed. The Samlex 1500 has a 3 position toggle (on/off/switch), as well as +/- to wire it. In my case, can I wire the + from the load terminal of the LVD, and the - the inverter - post? Will the low voltage disconnect switch the inverter off as...

    Voltage discrepancy query

4 or 5 intertwined questions, so I'll just post the first for now. Initial 3 year old build: 2 x 410w on trailer roof, EpEver BN 4215 (40A) w/ MT50 monitor, single SOK 206, Samlex 600/1000 inverter. Ran great for my intended use, lived in it all last summer away from home, on short notice...

    Top Balance

System essentials: (2) 420 watt panels in series, EpEver 4215BN(40 Amp), (2)SOK 20612V (parallel), Samlex 1500/3000 Inverter (just upgraded from the 600,not relevant for this thread). The recent upgrade of the 2nd SOK creates the question. My best ever charge rate has now dropped to 0.1C...

    Terminal question

My EpEver 40 works well. Unfortunately, the input/ output ( all to/ from) are simply stripped wire mashed down by a screw. Are there alternative connectors for that?

    New SOK concern

Concerns and options... The first SOK206 in my trailer build has been cruising along for a couple years. I ordered another one, so pulled mine out n brought inside to AC charge fully. Get them both close to equal before hooking them together. My NOCO genius 26 Amp ( I know, not ideal) charged...

    Parallel battery voltage

Can I check each battery with a voltmeter at the terminals, while connected? Or, will that simply read the combination voltage?

    Parallel battery cable length

My 2 SOK 206s fused positives to common post have virtually identical lengths. Is it imperative that the negative returns (via another common post) are the same as well?

    Bussman 285

Can the Bussman/BlueSea 285 be mounted upside down, and still function? For simplicity, it's that or have loads on the terminal marked 'battery'. Which works, if either?? One from SCC to battery, another from battery (fused) to inverter/ DC busbar.

    Upgrade/improvement critique

I'd make pretty schematics, but that will take Mr. Analog a week. Sooo.. This somewhat 'Will's small build' was run fulltime for 5 months, while I lived/worked away from home. The system: 2 x 420 panels up top, solar disconnect into 40 amp EpEver. All 4 gauge wire hereafter. SCC + through 50A...

    top balancing required?

To this point, I've been running a single SOK206. Supposedly, it is able to actively balance the CELLS within the battery. Now, the 2nd 206 is on its way for a parallel setup. In parallel, do I need to top balance prior to joining the two? Solar/charger only gets me there n stops, of course. A...

    Wire gauge question

Build presently running 40 amp epever, 206 Ah sok, samlex 600/1000 inverter. To add another same SOK, w 2-3000 inverter, is my 4 gauge sufficient? The ramp up is for microwave/ kettle use, short bursts basically. Battery ( common post for the 2)to inverter run is 8 feet round trip

    MC4 vs standard 10 gauge

Can I use standard 10 gauge wire for a couple 18 inch interior pieces? Added a solar disconnect, and want to bullet solder the end to my Epever. Due to the mounting of disconnect, need a couple longer wires. The main MC4 wire benefit is for UV outside, correct?

    System upgrade suggestions

820 watts up top, EpEver 40 amp, single SOK 206, 600/1000 Samlex inverter ( specifically for my small AC 2 door fridge/ freezer. 2 potential upgrades, and why. 1. Add a 2nd SOK 206. Why? With conservative charging profile for battery life ( hence settled late voltage +-13.2 volts) inverter...

    Solar Disconnect

Ready to install my solar disconnect, in the DAYTIME. 820 watts on trailer roof, SCC floating under 2 amps. Need to cut/ strip both PV cables. If I disconnect both from SCC, tape the one not being worked on( to avoid inadvertent shorting on metal bits, then reverse for 2nd one.. that safe??

SOK 206, epever 40 amp, 820 on the roof. The trailer was a weekend thing, now working out of it away from home. After MANY parameter changes...mt50 floating 13.6 volts/8 amps, attibutable to consistent loads. Max use everything on ( including inverter AC fridge) 230 watts. Dialled in SCC at...

    MT battery temp sensor

My particular mobile circumstance makes the MT 50 batterytemp sensor pointless. What does my 4215 epever do with no temp sensor input?? Monitor DOES show a battery temp Is it just defaulting, or simply sees the temp at the slot where a sensor would plug in?

    Solar isn't magical

Not related to any post, just hopefully a bit of reality. Everyone has their reason to 'do' solar. 1. Free power: after you spend a fortune to get it. 2. Green: Well, green 'here'. Bout the same as 'recycling'.Ask the 6 year old mining it in the congo how they feel about it.That doesn't include...

    Can I do this??

My cargo trailer system has been up n running for a couple years, pretty much based on will's template. The day started, putting a switchable breaker between panels n scc, to avoid blankets n night work. Now? Discovered a previous wired switch breaker ( to kill inside power ac n dc wired...

What limits the panel power output?

Not specific to my system. Dumb solar panel sees sun, converts to power. In my case, generally 95-105 volts. GENERAL: bright day, excess potential energy. Power transformation = waste heat going ??? 1. Where does that heat go? 2. If the panel ( or SCC) magically doesn't vent excess as heat...

    NOCO smart charger

I have a Noco Genius 'smart charger' (26 amp max output). Should I need use of 'shore power' due to low solar/ higher useage; A) Is it system safe to clip on to battery posts and charge? IF (or not) solar is producing, does SCC 'see' that other charge? Technically speaking, I expect the SCC...

    Heat pad install critique

The build: 840 watts on roof, 40 amp epever scc, 206 Ah sok, unheated trailer unless I'm in it, winter Canada battery still never gets below about 12.8 volts. Outside temp = inside unheated, only a question of how long it takes. Typical winter outside in the -20 c + windchill. Let's just call...

    Charging vs resting voltage

Ironing out MT50 settings w my 206 SOK/40 Amp Tracer. Here: If I'm aiming for 90% SOC, the many graphs here show an appropriate voltage (13.4 - 13.45). That's resting voltage, correct? Charging voltage needs to be higher to create 'push'? Higher charging voltage simply means it gets there...

    PV heat question

For you electrical enfgineering types out there: 820 watt pv, 40 amp epever sok 206. General load in trailer is light: 65 watts running for AC fridge via 600 watt inverter, 12 volt LED/ fans. Day 1 I got the solar live ( after 3 weeks of battery use) I saw that 40 amps. Now, never more than 10...

    Mounting system input/ critique required

Prior to butchering more holes, a little feedback would be helpful., on my cargo trailer. The intent is to have the panels easily removable without ever touching the roof screws...

    SOK install ?

2 questions: 1. 1 inch insulation surrounding the metal case. Suggestions for appropriate spot for temp sensor from charge controller? 2. In our Canadian climates ( we do get hot periods pushing 30C), should I remove the insulation til winter?? I'm not sure how much heat will be generated to...
