    Predator or Champion?

Sure theres downsides to leaded avgas but it was recommended for someone storing gas for a long time. Theres not much fuel choices out there that can be stored for any length of time, let alone 15 years and Avgas is available at your local airport for maybe a dollar per gallon more than premium...

    Predator or Champion?

Not really enough lead to worry about for a small engine running on Avgas. We do see plug fouling in aircraft but only when the mixture is excessively rich and ran at low power settings. Otherwise piston aircraft regularly go 100 hour intervals, burning maybe 1500 gallons in the process with no...

    New Off-Grid Cabin/House

Id consider putting everything in a separate outbuilding/shed for simplicity and ease of code compliance. Id also consider pole mount for the panels. Fast installation, easy to adjust seasonally. One hole in the ground

    Victron charge controller

If you haven't seen any charge rates over 70A you probably aren't leaving anything on the table by downsizing CC. Im not sure Id calculate based on 80% though. I have seen my Midnite Classic 150 with a 6 panel array of 2190W as high as 87A amps to a 24V lead acid bank, perfect storm conditions...

    Is my water tank safe?

This! The container likely wont be the one to contaminate the water. The water should already be considered contaminated by something.... bugs, bird poop, pollution and so on. The process to filter and treat the water will be the most important.

    Victron charge controller

Are you sure you want to remove a 94A controller and replace it with a 70A? Victron has a really nice 150/100 if you want to keep the higher charge rate.

    Predator or Champion?

O lordy don't get me started on gas cans and their stupid spouts they come out with nowadays!!! All garbage! I threw all of mine away and only use "utility jugs" now with the flexible spout and screw vent... I don't care if it's illegal, arrest me!

    Solar nightmare

Sorry to hear about that, unfortunately it sounds all too familiar. Does your quote or invoice say what the system will run? Perhaps they deemed the well to be too high of a load for the system to run in "off grid mode" What are the problems you are seeing when you say you're not getting 100%...

Multimeter and charge controller show different voltage

Ahh, it may take a while to get full. Sometimes even a few days to get cells balanced. Are there any other loads that may be slowing down the charge process? How many hours does your panel get sun? In bulk, yes you should eventually get into the 14's

First Time ordering from Solar Sovereign - a pallet of panels

Was just looking at this today. Heck of a deal. Seems to be the last good deal on panels as we go into summer.

Multimeter and charge controller show different voltage

Seems like you are in float, which is good if the battery is fully charged. Have you discharged the battery since hooking it all up? The preset on the victron should be ok. They seem to be set for a universal average of LFP batts and a tad on the safe side for voltages.

thru the wall with 10 ga solar wire

Your PV wire should be rated for 600 volts as direct bury, then 1000v or higher in conduit. Youre good, but need metal conduit if you want to be NEC compliant.

    Low amps

What charge controller do you have? Battery voltage?
  16. seneysolar

    Low amps

Are your batteries low enough for the CC to draw the amps? The CC will only draw what it needs and might taper off as the batteries get full. I would only expect peak current below 80% state of charge in most cases. Also STC panel ratings are rarely achieved. Perfect lab conditions are needed.

    Combiner boxes

In most cases a stand alone MPPT using more than 3-4 full size panels has to start paralleling strings to not exceed 150v- 250v I do wonder about a scenario with 12 strings going to a single mppt without exceeding its limits. Seems like a very unique scenario. I think multiple mppts would make...

    Break out of metal conduit

Ahh yes, the Victron is not UL listed. However they do sell an extra "wire box" for those to aid in wiring. Otherwise i have seen people set them right next to/butt up against raceway.

    Break out of metal conduit

Most UL listed products accept conduit ran directly to them. Pv combiner boxes make transitions easy for both the conduit and changing wire types.

    Freezer not getting cold enough

I would start with a voltage and frequency check of the inverter output. Then see what happens when the freezer is running and it loads up the inverter. Sounds like the compressor is struggling. A kill-a-watt meter is great for this type of troubleshooting. Kill-a-watt

    Unintended ground rod

I assume it's different state to state. I was just using it as an example of the OP's concern for creating another ground rod. Here in Michigan most are buried bare copper line. Only recently have they started using plastic coated copper line. I have not seen any come out of the tank and...

    Unintended ground rod

I think its worth mentioning that the reason to eliminate "ground loops" that may have a different potential, is not for lightning protection purposes. It is simply to maintain circuit-level protection in a ground fault scenario. Building a solar array that could withstand a lightning strike...

    grunfos cu200

    Unintended ground rod

What about anyone with a propane tank and ___ feet of copper line buried in the ground? Or a point well with ___ feet of steel pipe in the ground? Both of these are likely to lead to appliances that are grounded, and ultimately grounded to the main panel. It is my understanding multiple...
