    Multiple ground rod

placed the two ground rods 6 feet apart and as @wdwtx2.0 states, #6 bare copper connected to the panel ground bar on one end and to the 2 ground rods. having no splice in the #6 copper going to the ground rods. Then run a ground wire with the current carrying conductors from your PV array and...

OK for solar panel to overhang rear edge of RV?

You can legally overhang a vehicle up to three feet in most states. My only concern is if overhanging the back of the RV, the road grime will cover it. So you will probably have to clean it more often.

    Massive Texas power outage

All those 1's and 0's that is now the benefit of AI. So sad that one day the demand for coders will be 0? Well maybe!

    Bonding nuance

If the earth ground wire you are discribing goes to two ground rods, then it needs to be connected to the AC panel and nowwhere else. There should be a green bonding screw in the main panel that bonds the panel (neutral and ground bonded at this point and no where else). Ground wire from conex...

Very low mains voltage with hybrid inverter. Would it work to correct it?

Worked in Mexico and all I can add is that grid power destroys electronics. My number one concern if using solar/grid tie in Mexico. I did not install any high frequency inverter to start motor loads. I only installed XW pro's because of there unbalanced load capabilities. Some Outback Radian's...

    Will a new inverter do?

If your whole system is of the 2005 vintage, your solar panels are likely producing in the 80 to 85 percent output range of there original nameplate capacity. Most panels of that era were in the 12 to 14% efficientcy range. New panels now are in the 20% efficiency range. Personally, I would...

Solar Wire for my ground mount

If you are getting this inspected the Code required ground must be run with the PV array conductors and attached where the neutral/ground bond is, as stated by @timselectric above.

4 X class solar flares to impact this weekend.

Makes good sense, as there are thousands of ground rods in parrallel with the grid.

4 X class solar flares to impact this weekend.

News release will probably let us know without any doubt that the Sun is causing the warming of the globe we are on! LOL Some people might be in fear over this as a cause! Hopefully there is some news reported that solar flares aid in solar production, and more DIY'ers visit the forum for...

Oh, don't do that. Sunscreen has been found to be cancer causing.

    Solar PV wire sizing

Grounding the panels at the array is optional, as in not neccessary. Pull a ground wire in the conduit with the array conductors and ground at the inverter.

schneider xw pro set up for 48v lifepo4 battery bank

If you are truely off grid, do not do a firmware (FW) update. The latest FW updates are for grid tied system features and there have been a few XW pro off-grid systems having problems when doing the FW updates. https://forum.solar-electric.com/discussion/358275/xw-pro-generator-issue

Crimpers - How do you manage those annoying flyaway strands (not a haircare thread)

x2 Zip tie. As you push the conductor into the barrel of the lug, pull the zip tie toward the insulation on the conductor. Remove the zip tie to get the conductor firmly seated in the lug. Crimp and insulate as neccesary.

Ground Mount Planning / Help Placing Ground Mount

I have used a laser and a speed square to find the angle for different seasons, shoot the laser at the nearby trees for summer and winter sun angles to find panel placement. Your Latitude will help you determine panel tilt as well as panel location on your property.

California? Read the NEM 3.0 (Net Energy Metering) requirements. With the new state law there is not as much return on investment, the system gets 75% less payout vs NEM 2.0.

Advice on running conduit through a standing seam metal roof

I learned to never penitrate a roof membrane or metal roof in your case. Just one more spot to possibly get a leak that would need a later repair. I usually transitioned off roofs with an LB conduit body.

    Semtive wind tubine

I would have to say, no one has a vertical wind turbine that produces as marketed!!! Small Horizontal wind turbines have a hard enough time producing power, vertical turbines produce less than horizontal. A good primer on small wind; https://www.solacity.com/small-wind-turbine-truth/

Midnite Solar Announced their new 10kw AIO at Intersolar Today

Giving customers the run around? We know that doesn't happen! LOL .. But I have replaced two inverters when it has occured. I would go with Midnite before even thinking about an inverter that hasn't been out for 3 to 4 years with a good track record.

Does everyone else imagine panels on perfect roofs?

In Bend, Oregon region: The small gap created when using manufactured panel mount systems allows the snow to slide off when the panel angle is at 45 degrees or morre. Live in the area and I recommend at least a 35 degree angle for ground mounts, snow removal with a long handle broom at this...

Does everyone else imagine panels on perfect roofs?

Helping people from themselves is the sometimes the hardest work to do, they usually don't have enough knowledge to see that they were helped in the first place! Not until they see the less money going out of there pockets do some realize the benefit. I had a customer complain about there solar...

    Let's fight about aluminum wire!

My take on aluminum for electrical installations is it is fine for busbars and service entrance conductors if larger than 1/0. Worked in the aluminum industry for a 10 year stretch and even the engineers that developed the specifications of use for aluminum, would not use aluminum of any type in...

Do solar panels age the same if they are producing as they do when disconnected?

I have had panels in Arizona, Southern Mexico, Honduras, Washington State and Idaho. The panels in the hotter climates degraded faster than the panels in colder climates. As I recall, the degradation rate on the panels was the same in use or disconnected over a 29 year period from 1983 through...

    Strut alternatives

If you use schedule 40 rigid pipe, its tensile strength is around 35,000psi. Don't use it for any installs because it bends easier in high winds vs a product called Gatorshield. Gatorshield has a 50,000 psi tensile rating. Never had an install fail with it. Has a better corrsion resistance than...

    Strut alternatives

The rating is similiar to that of a 100 year flood rating, the highest level of water recorded in the last 100 years during a flood. In my area we see the 90 mph winds once every 100 years. We have had several occurances of wind gusts in the last 8 years that where recorded at more than 80 mph...

Midnite Solar Announced their new 10kw AIO at Intersolar Today

Midnite Solar Announced their new 10kw AIO at Intersolar Today

I can tell you that there are actually more cases of this happening than most people are aware of. My nephew works in an electrical engineering group that does forensic investigation for fires. Not using UL listed equipment voids the insurance payout every time in a fire if the equipment is...

Co-worker says Im wrong. Maybe you can tell me if I'm crazy.....

If you take the one bad battery out to just replace it. The new battery will always perform to the age of the other 3 in the string. Basically making a brand new battery act the same age as the the 3 older ones. Typical VRLA batteries used in telecom are good quality. Some you can equalize...

    newbie solar considerations

Just helped a DIY guy, and looking at the specification on his inverters idle consumption told him where his battery usage was mysteriously going. His cheaper, but brand new inverter was using just a bit over 4kw/hour per day just by itself. No-load inverter consumption seems to be a theme here...

How Long Can Your System "Coast"?

With the consideration of a property having a large enough lot to do ground mount solar and the advent of cheaper solar panels of high quality, I find it hard to believe that a new system even needs a generator where I live (300 + days of sun). I do not have a generator and have no problem with...

Breaker box and critical loads sub panel approach

Electrically isolated? Where I am located the ground of any system that supplies power to the same structure needs the ground of each system tied together at some point. The Neutral and the load conductors from the inverter and on the CLP are isolated though.
