My Signature Solar Experience (not good)

Does the above mean that it took the installer from February to May (i.e., three months) to send the inverter unit to Signature Solar"?

    Dumb newbie...BMS position question.

The manual for my Overkill BMS says: "Place the BMS in its desired location. Ideally, it should be mounted vertically,". For better heat dissipation.

Do you plan on mounting the T fuse in a holder made for that purpose?

Changing Settings of Devices Utilizing Cerbo GX Rpi

To clarify, I did use the Victron Connect app in order to access VRM on the Victron web page. Do you mean that I need to use the Victron Connect app itself to make changes to the settings and that I am not able to do so through VRM and/or the Cerbo GX Rpi?

Changing Settings of Devices Utilizing Cerbo GX Rpi

Thanks for bearing with me. Yes, in VRM, on the “Device list” I see all my Victron devices, including my SmartShunt 500A. When I click on the SmartShunt device, the screen expands depicting the information below. However, I see nothing that allows me to change settings. Your previous post...

Changing Settings of Devices Utilizing Cerbo GX Rpi

Thanks Brucey, Note that I do not have "ve.can" or "ve.direct" or a Victron inverter.. Are you saying that I should be able to use VRM to “tunnel” into my shunts and SCC’s so I can change the settings? If so, tomorrow I will explore VRM again to find a way to make changes on my devices .

Changing Settings of Devices Utilizing Cerbo GX Rpi

My understanding is that my Cerbo GX Rpi cannot be used to change the charge settings on any of my Victron devices, such as my Smart Shunts, MPPTs nor any of the parameters on my Overkill BMSs, all of which devices already do successfully report data to my Rpi, and which data is also...

Possible Voltage Spikes from Victron Orion DC-DC Frying My Truck Electronics?

I ran my 2AWG from the front of my truck back to an Anderson plug on my rear bumper, then more 2AWg back into the trailer to land on bus bars positioned about six inches from the Orion. Then I ran 6 AWG for six inches from the bus bars into the Orion. Agreed. I never size wire without taking...

What was your worse DIY solar mistake ever?

I learned that exact same lesson about two minutes after I opened my first box of 280Ah cells. Providentially, the end of the bus bar never made full contact with the second terminal. The spark left only a very tiny divot off to the side of the contact surface.

VE. Smart Networking with Two Victron Smart Shunts and Two SBS’s

Halleluiah! I got my two 12v 280Ah batteries paralleled, with both batteries reporting good data to my Rpi Venus. Below is a photo of my home page, where data from Batt 1 Shunt and Batt 1 BMS are reported. Below shows my devices (note both Shunts and both BMS's are shown). My two Smart...

Possible Voltage Spikes from Victron Orion DC-DC Frying My Truck Electronics?

I just watched a very good youtube with a detailed comparison of the old Orion vs the new Orion XS. One of the key takeaways for me was that when smaller wire is used, the voltage drop in the wire causes both Orions to draw more current from the alternator so that the Orion can step up the...

Possible Voltage Spikes from Victron Orion DC-DC Frying My Truck Electronics?

Not sure who mean by "you". Not me, I used 2AWG wire. I also cringe when I hear about people using their 7 way plug to charge a battery 20 feet away.

VE. Smart Networking with Two Victron Smart Shunts and Two SBS’s

I have a question about VE. Smart Networking with Two Victron Smart Shunts and Two SBS’s I built two identical 12v Lifepo4 batteries that I named Battery # 1 (“B1”) and Battery # 2 (“B2”). Each battery has: One Overkill BMS One Victron Smart Shunt One Smart Battery...

I'm tired of unreliable 'all in one' systems to power my fridge!

if you wanted to, you could add a trailer hitch receiver to your Lincoln, and mount a solar panel to a bike hitch rack. You would be the only guy in town with a solar panel mounted on a Lincoln. A purple velour suit would also be a nice touch! :)...

I'm tired of unreliable 'all in one' systems to power my fridge!

My Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/50 charge controller does not monitor the battery state of charge. However, it will show how many Ah the charger itself is providing to the battery.

Victron is Over-priced Eurotrash. Why would anybody buy Victron over an AiO?

I presume you meant "Newpowa". If so, I found this to be the case for me also. The Newpowa MC4 connectors fit loose when I connected the Newpowa MC4 connectors to all my other non Newpowa brand panels and also when connected to other non Newpowa MC4 connectors I crimped up myself.

Possible Voltage Spikes from Victron Orion DC-DC Frying My Truck Electronics?

Thanks for the warranty reminder! My truck is a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500, with 78k miles. My understanding is that the Active Grille Shutter (also known as Radiator Shutter Assembly) regulates frontal airflow in the vehicle to reduce aerodynamic drag. The shutter also offers improved fuel...

Possible Voltage Spikes from Victron Orion DC-DC Frying My Truck Electronics?

Four different shops read the codes, two of which were full service Chevy Dealers, The codes said both the the shutter control and throttle body motors were bad. The Chevy Dealer mechanic i chose to work on the truck told me that he physically inspected the old throttle body motor with his...

Possible Voltage Spikes from Victron Orion DC-DC Frying My Truck Electronics?

So far, if my understanding is correct, mikefitz and justinm001 are of the opinion that neither the Orion nor the other devices are likely a source of my truck’s OEM electrical system problems. Although maybe not directly relevant to my current problem, last night, I watched a video where a...

Possible Voltage Spikes from Victron Orion DC-DC Frying My Truck Electronics?

I appreciate all of your comments. Thank you! At this point, my assumption is that my Orion is properly wired. As an aside, I think mikefitz agrees with my assumption. If anybody disagrees, please let us know and I will open another thread so that we can discuss this important matter, wherein...

Possible Voltage Spikes from Victron Orion DC-DC Frying My Truck Electronics?

Is it a reasonable possibility that a voltage spike from one of the electrical devices in my trailer has flowed into my truck’s electrical system? Respecting my 2018 Silverado truck, both the Throttle Body Motor ($500 to replace) and the Active Grill Shutter Motor ($1,100 to replace) failed...
