Just a thank you guys, it turns out one of the batteries in particular is in much worse condition then the others which was really confusing things. Because it wouldn't take a charge like the others it made them spike high and then moving the batteries around just caused more confusion...

When you say cross strapped do you mean the 3 are effectively paralleled pairs then series across the two banks, I was thinking of trying this, it my mind it would help a not so great battery out in the pack.
