Help with wiring rack battery into current system

Hello guys, haven't posted for a while as everything as worked great but my AGM batteries are slowly coming to the end of there life and would like to introduce a rack mount battery but not sure what's the best way to wire it up and should probably add some fuses. I am super happy with my setup...

Chargers tripping breaker but only if I power them all on together

Yea I have considered doing it this way, everything is automated anyway so I could just do a few smart plugs and do 2 at a time with a 2 sec delay on each or something.

Chargers tripping breaker but only if I power them all on together

Just to make sure I get the concept of the NTC. Switch charger on and the cap tries to charge which looks almost like a short in effect to the breaker for a very short space of time. The NTC would act as a resistor allowing the cap to precharge at a slower rate and as the NTC now has some juice...

Charge batteries on a night, what should I set my SCC to during the day

I believe this is when the volt drops to say 12.2v for x amount of time then reset to bulk, I don't have any of those types of settings. It is literally if it drops below float go back into bulk by the looks of it.

Chargers tripping breaker but only if I power them all on together

I am trying to work out why my chargers are tripping my breaker in my main panel. I have a DIY gridtie setup with a 1000w inverter with 2kw pv and 8 x 12v 4s2p so 48v 110ah batteries. It is connected to my main panel on a B6 RCBO breaker, the inverter never causes a problem even if it spikes to...

Charge batteries on a night, what should I set my SCC to during the day

I have around 2kw of PV gridtie DIY setup. 8 x 12v 55ah deep cycle AGM VRLA batteries in 4s2p so 48v 110ah. I have been trying to work out what the best thing to do with the bulk and float volts on the charge controllers, they are super dumb PowMr units with no settings for bulk time. I...

Adding a battery to a SUN 1000W GTIL

Yea mine does exactly that, I find as long as the solar is around 200~300w higher then the house load the battery is charging, less than that battery stays roughly same voltage until obviously less solar then house the battery discharges. This is my battery voltage for yesterday. What the...

Adding a battery to a SUN 1000W GTIL

I have the same as well for just over a year. 2kw of panels to charge controllers to batteries. Inverter to batteries, only ever done 36v and 48v batteries but i cant see why 24v wouldn't work, they are pretty programmable. 3 pin plug into my garage which has a feed on its own breaker at my...

Current Setup - What to do next?

This is kind of what I am worried about is that I just keep growing and growing. I only really have space for 12 panels which is what I have got now so I probably should replace the bust panels and I guess going forward I could upgrade to bigger panels and sell on the old ones as I go it would...

Current Setup - What to do next?

Thanks, i like to tell myself im doing something right lol. I can replace the broken panels for about £200 that would give me 0.5kw more PV which would help with later in the day, maybe save an extra 30p a day so could pay back in 2 years. It would obviously help keep batteries charged etc but...

Current Setup - What to do next?

Hello all, just wanting to get some opinions on what to do next or if I'm at a point now to call it a day adding to my system. I have around 2.2kw of panels; 4 x 260w in series to a PowMr 60amp controller 4 x 215w in series then in parallel with another 4 x 75w ish (270w badly smashed panels)...

Help me understand what is happening with my batteries, I'm lost.

I'm planning to measure the voltages today during a charge to see exactly what the charger is doing so at least I have that info. The repair mode literally just says pulse repair which isn't exactly helpful but will measure voltages for that as well but I have never heard/smelt them gas/vent...

Help me understand what is happening with my batteries, I'm lost.

I have got 10 x 55ah batteries I have posted a few times about them, they are all second hand so no idea of age or remaining capacity and I originally had a few problems with them going out of balance so I bought an active balancer and it has worked pretty well but spotted one in particular was...

Importance of testing batteries / cells in series

Ok I think I might of found something odd and planning to revise my testing but wondering if someone can sense check it before I spend another 3 days at it to change the testing all again. The 10 x 55ah batteries I have got are all Lucas LSLC55-12 55/20hr, they come with cords on top as carry...

    Batteries grouped in parrallel

I used similar length cables and took one from each + and - tied them together which worked well.

    Batteries grouped in parrallel

I think... Cabling can help with this, i think when you pull from one battery it can become a problem.

    Batteries grouped in parrallel

I honestly believe all batteries should in parallel balance out, i didnt think chemistry would matter. Now if you then pulled them apart and put them in series and one of them is way older or less capacity it is going to be a problem. But hey i havent got any lipo batteries so i could be wrong.

    Batteries grouped in parrallel

If they are all in parallel will with keep each other balanced. When you buy new batteries the easiest way to balance them is to parallel them all together, it is only when in series you need to worry about balancing. For example if you had 6 in parallel then x 4 and series those together to...

Importance of testing batteries / cells in series

Turns out the repair takes about 16 hours to run, must be a timed thing as it was the same for small and large battery. I believe it pulses the battery and then finishes with a charge. But it starts at about 12w and ends up at 5w so god knows how it helps but I have gained about 40% on the...

Importance of testing batteries / cells in series

So good news is chargers work as expected and the charge wh going back in matches what the capacity test shows so I think methodology works. First block is B1, second block is B2 desulfurs, soft starts, bulk, absorbs, tests, toped up, floats B1 23.38ah tested to 12v and took 539wh measured...

Multiple 12v chargers on 48v series bank

Well my saga continues... own doing buying second hand batteries. Started a thread about my batteries I basically finally bought a battery capacity tester so I can get to the bottom of which are good and bad batteries, good news my 12v chargers do what they say they do. It is something...

Importance of testing batteries / cells in series

Hoping this might help someone else. I have made several posts over the last year trying to understand why I have had a few problems keeping batteries in sync with each other in my case 12v batteries in 36v or 48v series string. Many many times people have said you need to test the batteries to...

Multiple 12v chargers on 48v series bank

OP Here just saw an email notification come in. Good to see some more responses, I did go ahead and buy 4 x 12v chargers and running them as described in the first post with no issues at all. They are cheap chargers but 7 stage so they all reach float at 13.8v. Stupid thing is the LCD on them...

Monitoring software for Growatt-MPP Solar inverters

I don't have one but I did a load of reading before I purchase a different product. I would guess it is probably modbus on the RS485, which inverter do you have ?

Anyone use? PowMr MPPT Charge Controller 60

Old post I know but instead of a new post. I have the PowMr version and I am wondering what these 4 little contacts are which "could be" rs485 maybe (hopefully). I assume if it is there will be 3.3 or 5v, gnd then tx/Rx, can I safely stick a meter on to test. I was thinking of checking for...

Issue with batteries in series going out of sync

Just a thank you guys, it turns out one of the batteries in particular is in much worse condition then the others which was really confusing things. Because it wouldn't take a charge like the others it made them spike high and then moving the batteries around just caused more confusion...

Issue with batteries in series going out of sync

So I have do the internal resistance test on the ones that are currently not in use. I think I have held the resistor on for too long to be honest but same amount of time for each battery 4 ish seconds Battery No Load Load Resistance 1 12.74 12.71 58mohm 2 12.74 12.72 39mohm 3 12.92...

Issue with batteries in series going out of sync

I was thinking of doing this, I found a cheapo https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/253968072706 one, I would need 2 of them but if I go to 48v later on I could just add another. I guess the problem is all you are doing is aiding a battery which isn't as good as the rest but at least it is something.

Issue with batteries in series going out of sync

When you say cross strapped do you mean the 3 are effectively paralleled pairs then series across the two banks, I was thinking of trying this, it my mind it would help a not so great battery out in the pack.

    1. Lucas LSLC55 https://www.plymouthbattery.co.uk/type/vrla-and-agm/lucas-vrla-and-agm/lucas-lslc55-12-55-12 2. Issue with batteries in series going out of sync

Yes my original batteries charged them separately and they tested pretty similar. I have charged my bottom pack last night in parallel and put them back in series this morning, they seem to be happy 0.03v out now underload so they should be "good enough" My top pack which I charged in parallel...

Issue with batteries in series going out of sync

Funnily enough after more testing today, it looks like battery 3 jumps up to 15v but it is battery 1 which drops to 11v quickly. To be honest I have swapped cables and batteries and cables that many times I'm not sure where I'm at so paralleled the set together to bring up to charge.

Issue with batteries in series going out of sync

Ordered now. Did a quick test on my bottom set of batteries, turns out they are actually a bit out as well. Fully charged (13.8v x 3 so 41.4v float set on inverter, seems to read a little low) 13.74v - 14.10v - 13.93v Underload 5 mins 100w - 12.75v - 12.80v - 12.72v so .08v out 5 mins 250w -...
