Why bother charging supplemental from the grid at all? Does the inverter not just pull straight from grid if there is insufficient power left in the battery?

The old AC systems are terribly inefficient. I've got 2 small 2kw AC split systems, one on each end of the house. In this weather, the AC in the bedroom easily keeps the room frosty enough for sleeping and uses only about 600w continuously. The old ducted system used to use about 5kw and did a...

I think powering the aircon would be the biggest priority in this weather! Yes a transfer switch is on the eventual to do list. Currently if the grid goes down its only a few wires to swap over and ill be back up in 5min. Blackouts are very rare here though. Maybe once every few years. Yea huge...

It's very satisfying to see what effect good PV and a battery has! My bill was roughly $750 per quarter before PV, $300 per quarter with just PV and is now about $40 per quarter with PV and 45kwh of lifepo4 storage. (In QLD). Next step is to get an 8kw inverter and wire it up as pass through so...

Eve LF280K 6000cycle rated for solar at .5C 32cell build

I wouldn't worry about your cells being ruined at all. Especially if they only got down to 2.5v... These cells can handle abuse. One pack I made was discharged and then left for 6 months and found later with below 1v per cell. Mate brought them back to me, I charged, balanced and capacity tested...

Off-grid Solar / Battery monitoring and control freeware

This is great! Those 4 bms readouts all in one look awesome. I've been wanting to do the same for my 2x chargery and 2x JK BMS banks, all into one pi zero. Glad to see it can be done and thanks for doing the trial and error with the usb hubs! Crashing scripts can be fixed easy enough...

I've been running my inverter through the same breaker you have, with 50mm2 cable for almost a year now. Quite often seeing 125amp loads continuously for prolonged periods when cooking/baking etc. No heating issues at all. Whole thing stays perfectly room temperature.

Are we all getting GRADE B cells??

That's a shame. There's nothing wrong with grade B cells. Just wish the sellers were honest about it. Most people would still buy

    Varicore scratch bar code

If you bought cells for $20 each on aliexpress then you've probably fallen for one of the many scam sellers there. Let us know if you ever get any cells from them!

Are we all getting GRADE B cells??

Does the zke tester have separate voltage sense leads? Crocodile clips vs ring terminals shouldn't make too much of a difference if it does.

Are we all getting GRADE B cells??

@Substrate thanks for elaborating a bit further. Was a bit scary suddenly to hear an opinion that is someone so convinced that dendrites will destroy lfp cells in 2k cycles. I've not heard of this before in lfp cells, only the lithium ion type chemistries. Without more evidence to suggest lfp...

Thanks very useful. So scientific. Great evidence to back up your statement.

Are we all getting GRADE B cells??

Yep. Last lot of 16 I bought was $142 usd per cell delivered with duty paid too. I usually buy 16 or 32 at once. Have assembled 6 banks so far.

Are we all getting GRADE B cells??

Nope just speculation from what I've read and seen on videos. Everyone to their own. But from my perspective I'm very happy with both my grade A and grade B cells that I bought from Amy. A few Ah this way or that doesn't really matter given the size of these banks. These cells are performing...

Are we all getting GRADE B cells??

Eve tests all its cells. Those that fail testing go into the grade B pile and get auctioned off to resellers. Now thankfully they have a nice big B stamped onto their qr codes to solve the mystery.

Are we all getting GRADE B cells??

I didn't pay for testing. It's what comes with grade A cells directly from Eve

Are we all getting GRADE B cells??

I got a spreadsheet for the grade A cells. Not the grade B cells. I used a generic tester, the type you get on aliexpress awhile ago. Here's a pic of it.

Are we all getting GRADE B cells??

Ahh just checked and i lied. The grade B shipment I got was indeed all between Dec 2021 and Jan 2022. They tested between 274 to 278, as Amy said they would. The batch of grade A that I got awhile back were all from July 2021 specifically. They tested fairly above the 280Ah mark, I can't...

Hmm interesting. None of mine are in that date range. All are a tad older. Different tester though. Maybe mine is more generous

Are we all getting GRADE B cells??

What equipment were you using? The grade A cells I got from shenzen luyuan all tested pretty much what their spec sheet said. The grade B cells i bought off her, she said 280 to 274. And yep all within those ranges too. All the cells Ive bought, I have done 200A discharge tests for 5min, and...

Watch out for fraudulent LIFEPO4 200AH "NEW A-GRADE" CALB cells

I think he's just joking mate. All tongue in cheek. I feel like it's pretty common knowledge on this forum, to not buy cells off aliexpress as they're all scams.

Reputable seller of Yinlong LTO cells?

Hi Andy, I made an order with the daylight savings company about 9 days ago and paid. Haven't heard anything back yet. How long did they take to send yours out? Thanks

Reputable seller of Yinlong LTO cells?

You could go for the 200A 4s to 8s JK BMS. It has 2amp active balance too. Customisable between 4s to 8s. Just make sure you're getting the version with 8 cell cable and not 4 cell cable. I'm running 4s lifepo4 on it and it works great. Customisable voltage parameters so can be adjusted for LTO...

    Fire, Ready Aim

My off-grid farm property currently has a single All-in-one inverter running. Its a cheap ebay knock-off of an MPPsolar, from about 8 years ago. The solar charge controller internally broke and so I had to install a seperate SCC. When I upgrade the system soon, I'm going with 2x 5kw All-in-one...

JK 4S 200A BMS Electrical Noise

I bought two of the 4s BMS when they first came out. One had the issue and the other didn't. The faulty one I'm about to send back. The working bms did have an odd error once, but hasn't happened since then.

    Charge controller question

Sounds like you haven't quite understood how solar panels work in series or parallel and how the volts and amps combine. Don't set up a 4s string with a 3s string, in parallel with each other. At best you'll bottleneck and loose power. At worst you may get a short or bypass through one string...

Solar Panels Refresh - Under UK FIT

Read the terms of your contract for your feed in. If its anything like Australia, they keep tabs on how much kwh you're producing and if suddenly it spikes, you may get an inspection and your special FIT cancelled. Here you're allowed to replace inverter or replace cracked panels etc. Try to...

Is it possible to use two different inverters on the same offgrid system?

If one inverter has a grid tie capacity, you could perhaps use it to supplement the "grid" that is actually created by your other inverter. Just have to ensure it doesn't try to export anything and voltage limits are set.

Reputable seller of Yinlong LTO cells?

Hi there, Looking to make a 6s LTO bank out of the Yinlong 45Ah cells. Mainly want to buy via alibaba, ebay or aliexpress and ship to Australia. Can anyone vouch for any good sellers out there of these cells? A forum search just yielded the sellers to avoid. Thanks!

Another scam seller on AliExpress. "Small Den" or "Battery Supplier Store" selling used Yinlong LTO cells

Did you have any suggestions for reputable sellers for grade A LTO cells? Preferably aliexpress, ebay or alibaba, given that I'm in Australia and shipping from the US is ridiculously pricey.

Strange - Gradual reduction of max SOC over time???

Gee that's odd, I'd never run a system with charging based on calculated or measured SoC. That's just asking for trouble. If you have the option to make it stop charging based on voltage, I'd change to that.

Strange - Gradual reduction of max SOC over time???

Sounds like you have full capacity still. But SoC drifts a bit. I've got a JK bms and a chargery. Each have their own shunts to measure current and calculate SoC, and each do drift from each other a bit if the battery doesn't charge to real 100%. My chargery shunt thinks 0.5amps is charging the...
