600VDC PV Disconnect - Switching of both +ive and -ive required ?

600VDC PV Disconnect - Switching of both +ive and -ive required ?

Why negative grounding? Others have said that floating arrays are more common nowadays. Are you doing this with your own HVCC (High Voltage Charge Controller)? Interesting point about possibly using two spds ....

600VDC PV Disconnect - Switching of both +ive and -ive required ?

Present day mining world is moving to electric / autonomous quickly - much faster than construction industry for example. I keep reflecting on how much rechargeable tools have accelerated my carpentry projects. Granddad built his house out of lumber he salvaged from a collapsed exhibition hall...

Discover AES LiFePO4 Battery with one dead cell- Is it possible to repair?

The Youtube videos show you how to take the windings off the transformer in order to make a spot welder. The idea is to make it into a low voltage high current power supply which makes the transformer safe to use. Do be careful though!

Discover AES LiFePO4 Battery with one dead cell- Is it possible to repair?

It is relatively easy to make a spot welder from an old microwave magnetron transformer. There are several Youtube videos! You can also make a spot welder attachment for a conventional welder.

600VDC PV Disconnect - Switching of both +ive and -ive required ?

Yes - Electric battery locis! A bit bigger than the ones I worked on. I've driven old ore battery powered ore trains underground many moons ago - lotsa fun when they derail in the muck ...... Not much solar underground though. We were remediating the old abandoned Tulsequah mine in...

600VDC PV Disconnect - Switching of both +ive and -ive required ?

By the way, this is an off-grid, DC coupled system. So typically panel frames and charge controller chassis are grounded to the house ground, but PV array positive and array negative lines are left floating? I think that the 1 amp 600 V fuse shown in diagram is in the ground fault circuit...

600VDC PV Disconnect - Switching of both +ive and -ive required ?

Interesting and useful comments ...... I just found the diagram below in the Conext MPPT 100-600 Install Manual that shows switching of positive leads only. This is for a two string array. I'd think that fusing and switching both leads would be better though. This diagram brings up another...

Discover AES LiFePO4 Battery with one dead cell- Is it possible to repair?

Probably best bet is to find an EV battery repair shop that has the necessary spot welder and experience with larger battery packs. This battery would probably be quite easy for them to figure out. Must be some automotive EV shops in your area? You might reach out to Discover and request...

600VDC PV Disconnect - Switching of both +ive and -ive required ?

We have two strings of nine panels coming to make a total of 18 420WAA Pure R REC panels for a rooftop array that will be connected to a 100A 600V Schneider Charge controller. Each string operates at NOTC at almost 500 V and around 7 amps, so combined would make 14 amps. There will be four...

Separate dedicated small system would be best. You could fool around with stuff but you'd get unpredictable results.

    Experiences with Longi HiMo-5?

Thanks for the HiMo 5 performance info. The HiMo 5 series of panels come in both 54 cell 400+ Watt variants and 72 cell 500+ Watt variants. As far as I know, the larger form factor 72 cell panels are only available in aluminum coloured frames, which is too bad as I'd get the larger if...

    Questions about portable generators.

Best way to change generator oil is with one of those hand pumped vacuum oil changers they sell in marine stores for sucking oil out of boat engines through the dipstick. No fuss, no muss - takes about 10 seconds to suck oil out of our Honda. Best is that it stores up to 6L of used oil with...

    Experiences with Longi HiMo-5?

Hi We are down to the wire on ordering panels for our roof top array. We are off-grid on an island next to the sea in the Pacific Northwest. The roof array needs to fit about 6000 W or more on a Schneider 600V controller. There is just room for sixteen 1.73 m by 1.11 m on the main roof. The...

Discover AES LiFePO4 Battery with one dead cell- Is it possible to repair?

All things can be done! Careful steps pay off :) I fixed my suitcase welder which had to be totally disassembled to do it. Just put it on the dining table and put all the screws in egg-crates in order that they came out (so reassembly is just reverse order). I took lots of photos before...

Inverter recognizes generator but won't accept charge

Have you tried turning the Eco switch off on the H2000 so that it revs up to full power before starting charging? What are the symptom when you connect to the inverter/charger - does the generator blip or bog down at all? If so you might need to clean the exhaust screen (easily removed from...

EG4 18KPV Design/Configuration Help for 16,000kWh PV, 400A service, new build, Net Zero Home in Vancouver, BC

Don't know much about the 18KPV Inverters, but you have two of them right? With half of the 18kW PV panels on each it shouldn't be a problem outputting all of the power (9 kW each, i.e. 37.5 A @ 240V) to the grid since the inverters are both synched. By the way, "Primary and Secondary" is the...

EG4 18KPV Design/Configuration Help for 16,000kWh PV, 400A service, new build, Net Zero Home in Vancouver, BC

Thought you had the "Engineer's" touch with your drawing skills ..... I don't know much about on grid or how the 18PV software works, but in the Schneider on-grid modes you can set something like the grid export "breaker" value to limit the export current. Why is your cap on export...

EG4 18KPV Design/Configuration Help for 16,000kWh PV, 400A service, new build, Net Zero Home in Vancouver, BC

Ahh, good to know that's what Skelion does, will have to investigate. Re excess PV energy again: The reason you can overpanel a charge controller is exactly that, PV energy doesn't need to be pulled from the panels. If you don't pull out electrical current, that energy is just dissipated as...

EG4 18KPV Design/Configuration Help for 16,000kWh PV, 400A service, new build, Net Zero Home in Vancouver, BC

Unlike for windturbines and hydrowheels, any excess PV power isn't "shed" as in having to dump 25A, it's simply not drawn from the panels by the charge controller circuitry. If you had batteries, that power could be going to charge them until they are full, then again once full, any excess is...

EG4 18KPV Design/Configuration Help for 16,000kWh PV, 400A service, new build, Net Zero Home in Vancouver, BC

Very nice diagrams that you made! I like drawing in .ppt and excel as well. We have a rather energy frugal friend in Lynn Valley with 6 kW of roof panels. She offset her entire annual electrical consumption before she got a heat pump this year. She now still has a rather low hydro bill...

Hi - I'm in Vancouver too, but we are off grid on a little island. How are you making these wiring diagrams? And what did you find most useful about Skelion? I've tried it with Sketchup 2017 but haven't gotten very far yet. We are planning about 7kW of panels and an XWPro / Element battery...

How loud is loud? Xw pro and eg4 charge controller noise and vibration.

Do Tigo TS4-A-O optimisers actually work?

Best Lithium batteries for Schneider Conext 4024 system?

Have a look at the Discover Element batteries. They have the best integration with Schneider gear and provide closed loop charging. Also there are good deals on now in older stock of their AES battery line that have similar features.

Anybody tried new JK BMS with inverter communication support?

When you see the BMS in Insight Local, does it show the individual cell voltages or BMS error codes like cell overvoltage? This would be a useful form of remote monitoring to know if your battery pack is in a good state of balance.
