4 X class solar flares to impact this weekend.

If your panel array is spead over thousand miles it might have some effect. safe to say that it doesnt have effect on off-grid installations.

18 kWh System Realistic? Liveaboard / Workaboard

30kwh out of 3.2kwh panels is not realistic unless you like to sail in desert. For flat mounted panels 10-15 kWh per day in Florida would be possible :)

Hydraulic crimper tool die size by IBOSAD

I wouldn’t worry about that level of wings. Connector and cable cross section is probably still sufficient. Wings are problem in high voltage installations as the sharp corners create corona discharges. some tips were already given on this thread but you can also try mismatching die sizes like...

Reliable product to replace Chinese all-in-one inverter

Not much other option than Victron. SMA and Fronius would be otherwise exellent choices but need high voltage battery like everything nowadays.

Heater element matched to solar panel output = diode string

Probably depends a lot on location. I can imagine in southern california or baja california you would get pretty good peak production and cloudy days are lot less common. UK or Finland then on the other hand has 6 crappy days and one good day. Additionally in summer you get daylight 24/7 but...

18 kWh System Realistic? Liveaboard / Workaboard

300W for monitor is also either huge overestimate or really bad choice for solar-powered monitor. best 32" 4K displays are less than 20W (EIZO FlexScan EV3240X-WT) Curved 32" 4k Samsung u32r59c has claimed 48W but measures only 30W with reasonable brightness (in office type environment, would...

18 kWh System Realistic? Liveaboard / Workaboard

Your PC and laptop consumption sound kinda high. For solar it is worth upgrading to latest and most energy efficient CPU/GPU. Average 14” business laptop uses around 10-30w in light office use.

    House burned down

Very good point. Current dumping from other cells would be a major problem only on battery banks with cells in parallel. Also fuses should have no problem disconnecting the string with one battery failed to zero ohms as currents involved are only about 1/15 of invidual cell short circuit...

    House burned down

Also there are no quarantees that the cell shorts to solid zero ohms. It could as well short partially and draw only 200A. Over time 6 parallel strings would dump nearly 1800Ah and 6kWh of energy to that poor cell. Enough energy to make the cell glow red. Recommendation for String...

My 44kW vertical and bifacial set in Finland.

Yeah even when one string would be in pitch black cave and another in full sunlight. Solar panel is a string of diodes connected in series. It will draw very little to no current if the (externally applied) voltage is lower than the diode string voltage.

My 44kW vertical and bifacial set in Finland.

Parallei strings work just fine both in theory and practice. No need for diodes. Just need to match the string voltages reasonably close (10-20%) to each other, mismatch in string voltage is lost energy.

    House burned down

Cell failure was my initial thought also. BUT in that case the fuse would need to be rated only for 3.4 volts as only one cell of the pack would fail and pack voltage would differ only by 3 volts from other packs. Sustained arcing is pretty unlikely if not impossible with 3 volts, electric arcs...

Explain? 190% Quantum efficiency in solar panels???

Looks to me that best changes for this to work are materials with low bandgap energy. Thus you have lots of electrons that have excess energy that can still "somehow" create extra electrons. Downside of low bandgap material would be that it produces lower voltage. 200% QHE is not any good if...

Drilling and tapping REPT 100Ah cells?

Rule of thumb works for steel or similar materials on both nut and bolt. In soft aluminium you need something like 20-30 turn engagement to reach ordinary 8.8 bolt strenght. 3 turn thread engagement in soft aluminium strips extremely easy

Flexible Solar Panels (connectors under panel)

I’m affraid you are chasing unicorns here. Conventional panels sounds much better idea especially if you attempt to mount flexible panels with air gap. You would need some backing plate like aluminium, glassfiber or glass sheet and you get that for ”free” with rigid panels. Plus flexibles are...

    207kWh System... In 12V??? 😬

Depends what you mean by fixed from ends. If it has moment(torque) support both ends but floats axially? If both ends are fixed for both moment and axial movement it works mostly like cable and deflection is something else. Lazy to work out the numbers as both cases get bit more complex and are...

Power performance warranty - how would you know?

If you have several panels from same manufacturer it is easier to establish some sort of "baseline" and compare the output to that. If one panel is 20% lower than others it looks quite suspect. Other than that you would need solar irradiance meter like...

How to make a fixed solar cable crimped straight joint (not using MC4)

Sourcing proper BS or DIN standard barrel butt splices is easy enough and they are not expensive. You just need to shop electrical suppliers, not amazon or ebay. Tooling is another matter if you are on the market for cheap. You probably just need to try your luck with cheapo tooling and...

    Hacking EV battery?

It all depends.. If you are fluent with CAN buses, protocols and hacking and foolishly brave to not to be afraid of high voltage EV batteries it's doable. But generally speaking this is one of those projects that if you need to ask how to do it is not for you.

    207kWh System... In 12V??? 😬

The 2 first calculators I used are for "simply supported beam" with support on both ends so PL^3/48EI. Thus cantilever beam has 2x deflection compared to simply supported beam with 2x span. I throw the 2 first calculators just to trying to wake you up that you or ghatGPT made gross error...

Aliexpress 24V 100AH battery horrible internal resistance.

No need to switch to parallel. You could hypotetically drain the highest reading cells with your electronic load or 12V 55W car light bulb for couple of Ah. Or alternatively charge the lowest reading cells with adjustable power supply. Or combine both. 3.38 to 3.69 cell to cell variation is...

200A breaker for 175A copper wire?

Should be ok assuming the cables are not buried inside insulation or anything crazy like that. Note that even two cables(minus and plus) bundled together already lower the allowable max current.

Aliexpress 24V 100AH battery horrible internal resistance.

There is no easy way to fix the imbalance. Per youtube teardown video the BMS is jbd-hp28sa with passive balancing. I couldn't find the balancing current anywhere but assume that it is not more than 100mA even at best. Fixing 10Ah imbalance with 100mA balancing current would take 100 hours or...

Small bridge is not same as tall bridge  Different sort of engineer (EE-ish) here but can calculate enough to tell that HEB600 is not going to bend by couple solar panels. I did my crude calculation from HEB600 flange dimensions, flange distance and calculated tensile stress in the...

200A breaker for 175A copper wire?

Gazillion standards and countries to cover. NEC for single conductors Table 310.15(B)(17) allows 190A for 2AWG https://www.sabcable.com/pdfs/datasheets/tech-nec_ampacity_chart.pdf KIV seem to be 60Cel rated cable so 60mm2 single wire in free air would be abouts 210A with NEC rating.
