    Simple battery backup for house

Just in exploration phase. I have a full Victron setup in my 5er that I wish I had in my house. But I don't. House has 200A mains service with a 50A subpanel for the generator hookup. Manual interference switch from mains to genset. The genset is a Westinghouse 9500W/12000W (surge) 240V/50A...

    Stereo Speakers

True story. Happened 10 minutes ago. Me: Hon, I am going to move our Sonos Arc Dolby Atmos 7.1 surround sound system we have in the den down in the basement and move the Roku Ultra 5.1 Dolby system up here in the den since we always watch movies in the basement with the giant tv and there is...

Why is my Type T fuse getting hot?

Was load testing my RV system with a Victron MPII 12V 3000. Was drawing 318A from the battery bank for ten minutes. All wires stayed ambient. Happy about that. But the type T 400A fuse was at 106 deg F. Felt warm to the touch. Checked all the connections and they were good. Is this...

    Installed 3rd SOK 206Ah 12V battery

Got my new SOK in and charged it up last night. Dropped it in the RV today to do some load testing. All went well. There's room for a 4th and I made the cables all equal length so a fourth can go in. With one 15k BTU aircon + the fireplace on high (weird combo, right?) I was pulling 320A...

RV aircon vs. home heat pump

Baffles me that my Coleman 15k BTU aircon in my RV has 23 startup amps and draws 1650W and my 3T home heat pump (36,000 BTU has 25 startup amps and draws 2000W.

    Exhaust for whole house genset

I just got my whole house backup genset in place and have it running its 5 hour break in on natural gas hooked directly from the house. I would like to run the exhaust up the side of my brick house a short way. I already attacked a flexible extension. The end of the extension is very hot...

Can I get effective solar on my house?

Image below is from google maps. North is up. Seems like I could put a lot of panels on that SE facing roof. I really just want to get 1000W peak to cover my basic power. I'd probably just fill it up, but not looking for a lot. Location is SW Ohio. If there is a good simulator, I would...

Can my generator run my home aircon (heat pump)?

TLDR: Will my 7000W (10,500 surge) generator run my 3 ton heat pump? I have a 7000W genset with a NEMA L-14-30 connector. This is what the manual says "This receptacle powers 120/240 Volt AC, 60 Hz, single phase loads requiring up to 7,000 watts of power (7.0 kW) at 29.1 Amps for 240 Volts...

FLA converter charging a LiFePO4 why does everyone say 80%?

I am cornfused. My system is all set up for LiFePO4 charging and I rarely ever see more than 13.6V charging. I think I have seen 14.2V once in the last three years, although I don't watch the voltage 100% of the time. So why do folks have to replace their stock FLA (non LiFePO4) converters...

App that shows all batteries at once

I have 3 SOK BT battteries and the app for them can only connect to one battery at a time. I want to see all of them at once. Is there another app I can use with my SOK batteries that will let me do that? If not, are there other BT BMS's that do that with the app that goes with them? If it...

    Impact crimpers suck

I redid my RV system moving the batteries. While I was removing the existing 4/0 battery cables I noticed one of the wires was not tight in the lug. So I gave it a yank and the cable came out. I thought I had redone all my crimps with my Temco hydraulic crimper but must have missed one. So I...

Want to add a battery, out of space, moving batts

I am thinking about moving my two SOK batts from the basement to under the front bed. We don't use that space for anything and it has better HVAC than the basement. And (this is the best part) there is room for adding more batteries. This is what I am thinking: The batts would go to a Lynx...

Advice on how to wire these panels

This is on the roof of my RV. I have two Victron 100/50 MPPT's. Two sets of 10ga wire coming off roof. Panel specs: Voc: 24.3V Isc: 10.2A Vmp: 20.4V Imp: 9.8A So I am limited to 3S max. With 8 panels, I was thinking 2S/2P would work well. So, which ones to 2S/2P? This is the...

    Cost of solar

I just went through my system diagram and put current prices on all the kit. $6550 plus tax. Add another $450 for mounting hardwire, wires and misc. and I'm at $7k for a 1200W solar, 400Ah, 3000VA system. Then I look at my little 2500W Champion inverter generator and wonder why I just didn't get...

Can I go 4s with these panels and this controller?

My guess is no. I think I am over paneled with 3S and might be over voltage (or too close for comfort) @ 4S.

Do I need a disconnect switch for my inverter?

For the life of me I can't remember why I put a giant on off switch on the 12v input to my Victron MPII. I'm sure I had a good reason at the time. Thought maybe someone could help me with a good reason to have it.

LiFePo4 batteries still charged after 2 winters

Just went out to check the camper in storage. Been sitting there unused for 18 months. My 2xSOK batteries were still at 13.5V. So they survived 2 winters without being charged (or used). Pretty cool. And last winter it got really cold (-20 deg F). We will be using them again this season.

Going to install inverter bypass in RV to stop buzzing while hooked to shore power

Below is my current install with my Victron Multiplus II 12/3000/120x2 50 in my RV. When I am hooked to shore power, it buzzes all the time. Not real loud but I can hear it all the time and it drives me nuts. I don't need it 99% of the time when hooked to shore power, so I want to make the...

Do positive and negative wires need to be the same length to inverter?

I added the current limiter to my inverter and have it installed temporarily. The positive wire to my inverter is one foot long. To install the current limiter the way I want, the negative wire will be 4 ft long. Is this an issue?

Victron MultiPlus II (MPII) Power Share is awesome

Was out at the camper doing some testing of my new Battle Born current limiter. It works great and my BMSs never go into protect mode now. No precharge required. I know I can run one 15k A/C off my Champion 2500 inverter genset, but it cannot run that with the residential fridge. With the MPII...

Put the old non bluetooth (BT) BMSs back in my 2x12V 206Ah SOK batteries

Well, I got around to swapping out my original BMSs without bluetooth to replace the bluetooth ones. I can now turn on the inverter without using the precharge as long as both 12Vx206Ah batteries are connected to the buss. Still won't work on a single battery. But that's better than the BT...

Why can't I turn off my Victron Multiplus II when on shore power?

I would like to turn off my MPII at night because it goes into phsyco buzz mode and it bothers me. But when I turn off the MPII via the remote switch, I lose all power to the camper. Is this normal?

    Resistor size for precharge circuit

My precharge circuit has a 25W 6 ohm resistor. Simple circuit shown below. I have 2x12V SOK 206Ah LFP in parallel feeding a Victron Multiplus II 12/3000/120x2 inverter/charger. When I had the original non bluetooth BMSs in the SOK batteries, this setup worked great. Never had a problem with...

    Cerbo GX Tank 140

I was under my 5er yesterday pulling off the corroplast to check out the workmanship of the underside. Turns out they did a nice job. With the corroplast off, I had easy access to my tanks and started thinking about upgrading my tank level sensors. Found the Cerbo GX Tank 140 and bought it...

Any way to reset BMS on parallel batteries without unparalleling them?

Looking for a way to reset 2x12V SOK 206Ah LFPs in parallel. I do a lot of playing around with load testing and what not and every time I trip the BMS protect, I have to unparallel my batteries, apply power from the SCC to each one individually and then reparallel them. PIA. And sometimes I...

Do I need to switch both positive and negative feeds from solar panels to SCC?

I was in a discussion on an RV forum and the topic of whether to disconnect both positive and negative wires from the solar panels to the SCC is required. I guess it is per NEC code for houses, but not for RVs. While I'm all for codes, I would like to understand why it would be a good idea to...

Weird solar panel failure on RV

Someone posted this on a retirement site I am on: "We are camping in AZ. (First trip in new camper). Right before midnight we heard a loud sound. At first I thought maybe someone whipped a rock at our camper and broke one of our windows. But they all seemed fine. This morning we went on...

    Victron Multiplus II is buzzing

Have the 5er out this weekend for our first trip of the season. It is on shore power. We have a Victron MPII 12/3000 120x2 and it is buzzing loudly. I did some troubleshooting and the buzzing is a result of the DC side. With or without shore power, if there is a DC load, the MPII buzzes. I...

Added the last 2 panels to my 5er

Should I redo all my crimps with my new Temco hydraulic crimper?

I drunk bought a Temco hydraulic crimper. I have used the Temco mechanical crimper, the one that uses a hammer that Will recommends. I have 4/0 cable and all seems well with the crimps. Is there a compelling reason to redo all the crimps with the Temco hydraulic crimper?

Just ordered final 2 panels (honest)

Somehow found 2x200W solar panels and mounts in my Amazon cart and hit buy. I got the Rich Solar 200W panels like I already have. For some reason, they are $200 w/ free shipping on Amazon and $239 w/ free shipping on Rich Solar's web site. Weird. Ordered 2 tilt mounts, as well. Not that I...
