    This sounds fun… thanks!

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

Haha, that espresso machine must ;) Thanks for this! This is one of the options I originally looked at… the Growatt 24v 300K is actually 120v but is programmed to allow 120/240v split phase for parallel units (so you need 2 of them). I’ve been advised against this route due to: energy usage on...

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

I very much appreciate the ideas. I’ve been pretty thorough with my investigation, and have concluded that every option has a trade-off: it may be noise, upfront cost, space, energy usage, etc. At this point, I think the 240v ceiling cassette mini split is the best mix of pros & cons for me. I...

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

Because it's what I want :) That's it. That's the only reason. It's a choice based on space and aesthetics and preference, not functionality or simplicity or cost.

That’s an interesting idea—I have recently looked into a 24v -120/240v invertor, but the only one I can find is Magnum MS4024PAE, but they apparently aren’t in production right now. I’ve spent weeks sourcing components for various options….Sometimes I just wish I could order custom build...

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

First of all—thank you!!! This was incredibly helpful for me ? Did not know what a breakaway system was but I noticed a set of wires coming from the brake lines and wondered if there was some sort of similar mechanism! Clever… although it wasn’t hooked up ? I’ll change that in the future. This...

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

Ok, I've tried really hard to figure out what you mean... any chance you could interpret for me? I think you know my system... 7-pin wire to electric brakes, taillights, & to charge the current 12v battery. I want to preserve all of these functions, with or without the current 12v battery bank...

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

Why would I disable the charge wire? Isn’t that the way the power from the vehicle alternator gets to the trailer battery? Why would I need all of the dc2dc charger/converter if I’m disabling that wire?

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

I’m afraid I’m not picking up what you’re putting down… It’s just what I chose… most compelling reason u can think of right now is that I only need 2 batteries to expand the ah vs 4. The one I described above: Wouldn’t the 24v battery the 24vDC-12vDC converter is coming from be considered...

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

Yep, it's a 7-pin... I've given it some thought and am checking into separate components vs the AIO. I've decided to use a 24v-12v converter to either charge the old battery (skipping the 120v conversion through the main panel) or to power the 12v load directly, eliminating the old batteries...

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

Whew. Lots to think through. Thank you guys!! @Rednecktek & @smoothJoey I think I need to sit down and pencil out some alternatives with all this new info. I also think I may wire the trailer and give myself a little more time to nail down the system before deciding on the big items.

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

Hmmm... Ok, But isn't that far less efficient, since even my 120v will cost me the 10% efficiency loss of the transformer? Right next to the main 120v panel... it'll just have a transformer between them. Hardly enough real estate to mention What I was referring to is actually 2x the Growatt...

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

I think you guys have convinced me to ditch all of the pre-existing system, except maybe some of the wiring. I'm starting to see that it's no real cost or time savings to keep them, and probably a greater expenditure and hassle. In that case... 1) Would it be more efficient to run it all as...

For reals—no space! ? I have considered under the bed or over the wheel well where my dinette used to be for the batteries/electric center, but currently planning to repurpose a space next to the bathroom that used to be an outdoor cabinet/indoor closet. I didn’t plan to completely reno the...

Woop woop!! I think we’re making progress. This is all so very helpful. Thank you @Rednecktek and @smoothJoey! I’m going to take your feedback and run with it. If you get any more great ideas, I’m all ears.

Thanks! But what does this mean? the code part... Are you recommending a setting or a breaker/fuse size, or just telling me something (that I'm not quite catching)? Haha! This is what 1984 looked like :)

Pics attached... they're blurry. Do you need breaker amps/etc? Hahaha! Sorry, those were all rhetorical questions posed to myself. Basically, I don't remember if I have a reason for wanting to put those on separate circuits. The conversion info is all really helpful. The load is ultra small...

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

Ok! All i have on there is a few LED lights and the range hood. The fridge is a small residential on an 110 outlet which I plan to do dedicated, along with a dedicated for the espresso machine. Why separate circuits? Idk, it sounded like a good idea but may not be necessary. I have 2 circuits on...

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

True, I've done that math too, and I don't understand how they rate those, but I've seen it on too many mini splits to count--their amp/voltage = watts is really high, but real life is ultra low. My thought is that the online info shows max possible usage--such as trying to go from a 120 deg RV...

RV schematic w/240v subpanel - is this close?

The autotransformer is absolutely oversized, but I really struggled finding one. I may have better luck going to an electric supply store. New batteries are 12v lithiums. Old ones are 12v deep cycle or agm or something--I haven't even looked tbh, but they're not lithiums. Haha--most of the...

Yep, that's about what I've calculated. My audit has me at 4486/day. I am planning to expand the battery bank to get at least an extra day stored. I'll get this, but I'm curious why this is important? -Yes they are 12v. -I'm keeping them because they're already in place and it saves me from...

Cool, I'll look into that... Nope, it's a North American Blueridge mini split. Mine is a Kit Companion too (1984)! I'll check into these options. Great thoughts--will do!

So I ditched the pre-existing propane heater for 2 reasons: 1) the amount of space it took, and 2) I wanted to go all-electric and be as self-sufficient as possible. HOWEVER, I just took a look again based on your suggestions, and it looks like I can get pretty inexpensive portable options that...

Ok, I clearly don't know how to work these replies :) Yes--propane stove and think I'm switching to a propane tankless water heater vs the electric on-demand unit. Yes! It will have plenty for days on end. You're right--I didn't realize that. I also think I was mixing up a shunt vs the BMS...

Thanks--this is really helpful! Still need to figure out that margarita machine and hot tub, but you've given me some things to think through. Yes! So this is a mini split with a flush-mount ceiling cassette vs the wall mount. It's 25 SEER, a few decibels louder, and I'll bump out the roof--but...

Thank you! Yes, I've done a power audit and I know I have a few indulgences :) I'm ok with the trade-off, and I may have to ditch some things later on. Ok batteries. My math goes like this: I've got 4 total batteries at 12v 105ah each. These are setup 2 per series for 24v 105ah each set, and...

Hi all! I'm slowly learning and putting together a plan for my 19' camper trailer that I'll be living in full-time. Right now planning on ~ 1500w solar**, 2s2p for a total of 24v 210ah lithium batteries (w/plans to expand but I want to see what my usage is in real life first). I will be...

    Powering a 208V-230V A/C (e.g., Mini-Split) in an RV

Hi @HookEm --did you ever get this up and running? I am looking at the same unit. Would love to hear what you decided to do for wiring, how you like it, how noisy/quiet the system is, etc. Thanks!
