Replacing 12v power supply in camper with DC/DC converter

Slides yes but the camper is "permanently" installed on blocks with the slides out.

Replacing 12v power supply in camper with DC/DC converter

Currently my camper is plugged into an outlet powered by my 16kw 48v solar system, thus everything 12v in the camper is being powered by the on board converter. My thoughts are that rather than the power coming from the DC bus, inverting to 120v, then being converted back to DC, I could...

    Get a big battery

16kw.pv to 45kwh... 2.8:1. Last winter I was at 4.6kw pv and 30kwh, so closer to 7:1 and I had to run the generator a little every day to keep things going. My thought was that more than tripling the pv and adding 50% to the battery bank would allow me to get through the winter without needing...

pros vs cons of going split phase off grid

Personally, I installed split phase so that I could run a (heat pump) electric clothes dryer. There are also some 240v water heaters that I've looked at and it's nice to have the option if I decide to use one.

Victron Autotransformer: How loud is it?

I'm not sure, I'm totally off grid, but there were some people discussing that subject in the thread I linked above.

Victron Autotransformer: How loud is it?

Exactly, a microwave and rv ac unit. Might have turned the toaster oven on too, I was doing my best to test the system.

Victron Autotransformer: How loud is it?

Like zany said. Here's a thread more details https://diysolarforum.com/threads/240v-split-phase-with-4x-victron-multiplus-and-or-autotransformer.69797/ Here is my ccgx showing how both legs of the MPs are balanced out by the AT, in this case with a difference of ~3000w.

JK BMS no longer showing up on device list

Resetting the BMS rectified the issue.

JK BMS no longer showing up on device list

I recently replaced the two Daly BMS on my 48v lifepo4 battery banks with units from JK. They've been running fine for the last few days but this morning I noticed that only one of the two is showing up under the device list in the JK app. The led on the BMS is on and it seems to be working...

    Removing MC4 contacts

AHA!!! Well it took some digging through TE's website but I found their version of the MC4 which is called Solarlok, and a little more digging to find their official pin extraction tool: https://www.amazon.com/TE-CONNECTIVITY-AMP-1102855-3-EXTRACTION/dp/B00DRDNC8E So I ordered that too and...

    Removing MC4 contacts

Well... I just put a little more effort into it, and based on this: A circular pin removal tool somewhere between 5.5 and 6.5mm should do it... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2PGB3MN/ref=sspa_mw_detail_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9kZXRhaWw&th=1 I just ordered it so I'll...

    Removing MC4 contacts

I looked into this a while ago, having come from electrical engineering in the automotive industry I expected to find some sort of official "depinning" tool like what we use on circular bulkhead connectors. There's no such thing. I was pretty shocked and would love to be proven wrong but...

Victron Autotransformer: How loud is it?

I have the 100a AT doing load balancing for two MP 3000s in split phase configuration. The AT is much quieter than the MPs (which are fairly noisy), but I don't know if when using it to step down 230v to 120v it would behave differently than my application.

    Post your Ground Mount Setup

Is this a root cellar? Or a freeze protected battery house?
  17. W

    Post your Ground Mount Setup

As a landscaper I deal with old pressure treated wood all the time. The failure point is always right at the ground where the post meets the ground (typically 10 years), the rest of the post will be totally fine. With 6x6 posts connected to concrete with brackets, it will last for a very long time.

Charger settings for 48v Lifepo4 - Maximum battery life

Currently I am using the charging settings recommended by Victron for my 48v Lifepo4 battery bank (3 sets of 16s 280ah cells): Absorption: 56.4v Float: 54.4v I have read and heard a number of times that for maximum battery life (number of charge cycles), the batteries should be charged no more...

240v Split Phase with 4x Victron Multiplus and/or Autotransformer?

This. I was doing a lot of swapping breakers around trying to balance out the loads so as to not put too much strain on one inverter. The real limits of my system were found this summer when trying to run the A/C in my camper while other loads around the property were being put on the system...

240v Split Phase with 4x Victron Multiplus and/or Autotransformer?

Yes that's correct, the AT splits the load between the legs so the two MPs are outputting the same power (within the range of the neutral which is 28a, outside of that the MPs will go out of balance, but it still makes a huge difference). And yeah I was thinking the same thing! Correct, it's...

Correct. That seems to be the best option.

Is there any value in getting the cells closer to the SOC of the existing batteries before putting them into service?

In this case the AT is being used to the balance the loads between the two inverters.

Neutral/Ground Bond Clarification with Victron Autotransformer

I have two MPs stacked in split phase so I'll be following this diagram https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/AT-4-stacked-inverter-2x120V-to-120-240V-with-2xQuattro-120V-REV-B.pdf

Neutral/Ground Bond Clarification with Victron Autotransformer

Setup: 2x MPII in split phase configuration running to Autotransformer 100A for load balancing, feeding a main breaker panel in a shed. Neutral and Ground are bonded inside the main panel. The Autotransformer instructions say that the ground relay in the AT only should be used and the ground...

Anyone buying these 305ah envision cells?

Just getting the cells up to a higher state of charge with a 12v charger before putting them in 16p configuration for top balancing with a dc power supply. Then they'll go into the box in 16s configuration with a jk bms.
  29. W

Anyone buying these 305ah envision cells?

Well all the cells look good visually and all showed 3.31v. Charging up now in preparation for top balancing... I'll let you know in a week or two ?

Did I fry my SmartSolar charger?

Try disabling the low temperature cutoff. One of mine suddenly stopped charging and it was because it stopped reading the temperature incorrectly.

240v Split Phase with 4x Victron Multiplus and/or Autotransformer?

Well I've got an AT on the way and I'm going to proceed with option A. I think that with ~3000va of load balancing the two MPs will do the job for quite a while and then down the road I can add to the system as needed. Thanks for your comments!

    2x Multiplus II : 5kVA + 3kVA, serie or parallel ?

To run multiplus units in parallel/series they need to be the same model AND built the same year, according to Victron.

Who is still building DIY batteries

1 8s 24v lifepo4 using 280ah cells and daly bms. Then another Then combined them to make a 16s 48v Then another... Then another... Besides the difference in price, I just enjoy building everything I can myself and having a deeper understanding of how it works so as to maintain and repair in...
