Rooftop Disconnect Switch for Solar Panels?

I knew it! I knew those RSD requirements were completely stupid and ill founded this entire time. I'm glad to see this is finally being acknowledged.

Adventures in poor planning, spiteful engineering and emotional math.

I hear different things about it. I've been meaning to get clarification on the matter. I'd like at least some kind of conduit everywhere but I don't know what kind is required yet.

2 lines of temco 10 gauge solar cable through a Soladeck roof penetration through the attic in flexible plastic conduit then through the garage in rigid steel conduit then through a false ceiling without conduit and finally into that utility room. I've been considering adding more conduit to...

Yeah HA is great for that. I just have to get it setup to be accessible to the outside world to send me alerts. It is something on the to do list.

Something like that has crossed my mind. I'm probably going to do at least a few of those things.

Adventures in poor planning, spiteful engineering and emotional math.

I've been keeping an eye on the temperature. Usually it doesn't get near 100f. There is a hydronic heating system in this room and if there's an air bubble in those pumps they can get pretty hot. A lot of things would have to go wrong but I could see a situation where the temperature could...

Adventures in poor planning, spiteful engineering and emotional math.

Yeah I'm trying to decide between something like ceiling panels which are easy to install or hardie board which is a lot more difficult. There is a smoke detector there but it's not in the picture though. I'm looking into a combination smoke and explosive gas detector but I still haven't...

Adventures in poor planning, spiteful engineering and emotional math.

So I mentioned to the Mrs. the thread where the guy burnt his house down because the batteries went haywire. She did not react favorably. Turns out risking everyone's death and destruction of the house does not have a high spousal acceptance factor. Extra assurances are required. This...

What do you use for asphalt shingle roof penetration?

The soladeck costs 120. The ez solar box is 40. A pipe boot is like 15 I think. I doubt a pipe boot will pass inspection for this application. Is a roof penetration really where you want to cut costs like that?

What do you use for asphalt shingle roof penetration?

Soladeck. It'll outlast your roof. That ez solar box looks interesting. I don't like having plastic anything on the roof but maybe if you mount it under the panels it'll be okay. I really wouldn't use a pipe boot. You can also run conduit over the eve of your roof but that looks ugly.

    Will a new inverter do?

Yeah it sounds like incompetence on the part of the manager.or maybe an extreme aversion to risk. You might be able to pay an electrician to replace the inverter with a similar one and bypass the solar company completely.

    Series and parallels

That's a very odd limitation. Definitely would want to double check that. Personally I would avoid parallel if at all possible because you have to add fuses to protect the panels.

High cost vs low cost fuses

Well ewpiriwmirngfi is a fine upstanding brand. But definitely stay away from asdlkfjds;l.

High cost vs low cost fuses

Those certs are pretty meaningful. It means that company and the institution that certified it are extremely vulnerable to legal action if their fuses don't do what they say they do. So their survival as a company makes it more likely that their products will work as intended. Those companies...

Hey everyone, another new idiot to solar mastery

It might work. But critically you'd have to keep your car charging during the day. So this only works if you buy a crazy amount of batteries or if you don't work the day shift or you work at home.

BLUEPOWER IP6048 - The New SunGoldPower 48V Hybrid Competitor to the MPPSolar LVX6048WP

Yeah I've read that somewhere. Which is why I don't think the exact number SA reports is important. The importance is that it's there at all. I have used some meters to look at a few of these numbers. I have a clamp on DC amp meter. The constant battery draw for no reason is definitely real.

BLUEPOWER IP6048 - The New SunGoldPower 48V Hybrid Competitor to the MPPSolar LVX6048WP

It's complicated. This is just what I see staring at Solar Assistant while it runs. At idle Solar Assistant claims it draws 55 watts. But, if there's any solar power present then the idle goes up by maybe 150 watts. This is drawn from the battery if present. If a battery isn't present then...

    Bifacial panels really work!

There is one downside to bifacials, since they have two panes of glass they're considerably heavier than monofacial. Could be a problem for roof mounting.

They didn't just discontinue it. I think they erased it from existence. I can't find them anywhere.

    Never mind.

Yeah post the quote here. A lot of us are quite experienced at tearing apart quotes. 250 seems low. I think the best cost per watt is around 400 currently.

BLUEPOWER IP6048 - The New SunGoldPower 48V Hybrid Competitor to the MPPSolar LVX6048WP

On mine they're on constantly, not crazy loud but I wouldn't want to share a room with it. I haven't used them in the summer yet so I don't know what happens when it really gets pushed hard.

When is the best time to start a solar project?

In the US, with enough time to finish the install before the new year for tax purposes. Considerations for an asphalt roof. You really can't work with shingles at less than 40f or greater than 100f.

Because they're writing their software in such a way that fixing one issue causes other issues. So they don't feel confident in releasing something to the public since it will invariably break a lot of stuff.

My daughter is shopping for an ev she is looking at a bolt

Chademo is dying. Though it is the manliest connector. It's not as simple as using an adapter. There's bits below the surface that have to be made to support nacs. There is however a legend of supercharger stations that also have ccs connectors.

My daughter is shopping for an ev she is looking at a bolt

One thing you have to be aware about with the older leafs is that they didn't have any thermal management for the battery packs. As a result those packs degraded a lot quicker.

My daughter is shopping for an ev she is looking at a bolt

I've got to say I don't think EVs are a good idea if you don't have a 240v outlet at home. Maybe a plugin hybrid. I have an EV. Charging at home is awesome. We have chargers at work. Sounds great. Free electrons. But the number of EVs at work has gone up while the number of chargers...

My daughter is shopping for an ev she is looking at a bolt

Yeah if you want to do road trips then nacs is essential. Also don't buy an ev where you suspect the battery might have an issue. This is not like a gasoline engine. You often have to replace the whole shebang. Fixing these packs at the component level is often difficult to impossible. Mini...
