Future heat pump technology could boost efficiency by 50%?

I found this interesting article about research on electocaloric heatpump technology:

Two things I find interesting is that the system can be built up in series so it seems any input voltage size could be built.
And this could be a way to internally heat and cool a battery cell by an additional 17°C making lithium batteries fully functional down to 1.4°F up to 152.6°F (-17°C to 67°C)!
This tech probably won't be available until solid state batteries are, but it is still cool to see where things are heading.

I am curious what the HVAC pros on this site think.

(Edit: The 50% is that I saw another article that this tech could boost the Carnot efficiency from 40% to over 60%.)
