Eek! Looks like they've messed the bed with a demand for extra payment within 2 days for shipping/VAT to some backers for specific countries when they originally indicated they would NOT charge extra during the campaign.

I'm with you. Buying a new product off a Kickstarter campaign is kind of like being the first guy who was ever circumcised.... I prefer to wait and see how the history holds up.
The damage to the cell depends on the charging amps divided by the capacity of the battery in amps. This is called "C": Charging amps / battery capacity in amps. Anything over 0.4C or 0.5C is frowned upon. Charging a battery at any current damages it but going over 0.4C is generally regarded as bad.
If we have a 25AH battery and charge it at 12.5A that's 0.5C so that's generally bad. Charging it at a lower C is generally believed to lead to longer battery life.
