Have a small system for power outage backup.
800AH of batteries (Renogy AGM).
Thinking of replacing batteries with LiFePO4.
When I first started a few years ago most of the lithium needed a separate BMS and very expensive.
Didn’t do it at the time because the batteries were way more expensive & needed separate BMS and was more complicated than I felt comfortable with at the time.
Just been looking and there seems to be a lot of 100AH in the $200-$300 range with built in BMS.
Question is can you just go ahead and hook them up and change setting on controller for battery type or do you still need a separate BMS to control all of them?
Anything I am missing?

No, you should be able to just hook them up since most of the batteries will have a BMS. Will has tons of videos going over the new batteries from Amazon. I suggest watching a couple.

But long story short, you dont need a seperate BMS

try to get batteries that are the same voltage as your system this will solve series imbalances that could arise you will have less connections and a smoother running system
