There is a reasonable limit to that though. I can't expect a company to warranty a part that I modified or cut open or otherwise mangled.

A loooooong time ago, a friend and I were in charge of building a motherboard with a large processor chip. This included laying out the runs, layers and approving the 'etch template'. Remember those Playboy model 'outline' mud flaps? We put that outline under the processor chip area so it was covered up when then chip was soldered in - but it was there....
