Years ago (1993/4) completed a Renewable Energy course and started a renewable energy business which was WILDLY unsuccessful! After retirement, built the ideal house with off-grid solar, composting toilet, own water, well orientated footprint and roof with good cross-flow ventilation with back up petrol generator. This was on an iconic mountain with great views, on 43 acres only 2klm from the near Mullumbimby town.
We now live by the sea on small block and 10kW solar panels with batteries.
