Off grid but still receive a utility bill

A bargain! Mine is about 4 times that, and the sods keep sneaking more to the standing charge as this fee, that fee, fee fee, etc, rather than add it to the kWh used.

Vatrer Server Rack - battery arrived!

My Vatrer #1 arrived yesterday. Perfect condition. Photos as per yours. It's balanced out and sharing charge current evenly with the other battery pack (48v from 4 12.8v LifePO4s). Now if only the bloody clouds would go away! This weather lately.

    Battery segregation

I probably should have given that valuable bit of information. It's about to be two batteries. I'm trying to prepare for the second one's arrival.

    Battery segregation

Hello, This is likely a dumb question, so sorry in advance. I had all my charge controllers and inverters sharing the same set of bus bars as the battery. I'm adding a second set of bus bars, and separating them from the first set with an MCCB and class T fuse so I can disconnect the battery...

Adding another charge controller to my Growatt 12kw inverter with 1000 ah's of prismatic lifepo4 cells

I have two controllers charging up the same bank. Both are set to a voltage appropriate for the bank (57.6v max) and no problems thus far.

Whats more energy efficient: Off-grid or Grid-tie ?

It depends. While appreciating the academic points on conversion losses that you're raising on it, my take is this. Selling at wholesale and having to buy back overnight at retail is fiscally inefficient. Downtime during a grid outage is 100% inefficient. You can't guarantee 1:1 will remain an...

    Battery Refactor

Thanks for the reply! :) Indeed those balance leads are a bit of a mess. I hadn't cleaned it up yet mainly because of this thought of re configuring it.

    Battery Refactor

Hello, I'm sure others have done this so I'm looking for some design inspiration. I have a 48v battery made up of 12v LiFePO4s in 4S configuration, with a balancer, smart shunt and 125A fuse. It's all very close to the wall, indeed the fuse and shunt are on the wall, while the batteries are...

Vatrer Server Rack - battery arrived!

Yeah I wondered about the wires. @LithiumSolar mentioned they were #6 which correlates with your 30A statement. I suppose if one isn't going to draw more than 30A / 7200W it wouldn't matter. Presumably Vatrer figure most of their users are on lower end inverters and if not they'll beef up the...

Vatrer Server Rack - battery arrived!

And the deed is done. Rackmount Vatrer on the way, plus an MCCB and extra set of bus bars.. $404 after gift cards. Now I'll be antsy for the next week!

Vatrer Server Rack - battery arrived!

Thank you. That's a relief to know it fits. I have a couple of shelves and set of rails that used to hold up a 5U loaded with drives so hopefully it'll work out!

Vatrer Server Rack - battery arrived!

Questions on the Vatrer... - Does it fit in a regular 19" server rack? I have a 42U I'd like to put it in. Some reviewer said it was 3/8" wider. - Did it come with battery cables, and if so what gauge and roughly how long are they? - How big a deal is it not having RS-485? I've also been...

    Adding capacity

Hello again, It's been a week. I'm in paralysis moving forward and need some reassurance on the plan. To summarize the above... - add a second set of bus bars. - move the charge controllers and inverter off the first set onto the second set. - join the two sets of bus bars with awg 2/0 (of...

    House burned down

They provide the same protection as a T class? I'm sure you've mentioned it somewhere in this thread but I didn't see it. In your use case, which specific Midnite DC breaker are you using? Link if you're feeling generous! :)

    House burned down

So is the take away from this that we should all use appropriate sized T class fuses on the +ve of each battery, and after the bus bar they parallel to?
