  • Post in thread: Solar has been hijacked/co opted. A wakeup?

I'm doing my solar so that i'm not reliant on the man and can lower my cost of living (if I do it right), to me the solar movement has been hijacked by the "green" cLimAtE ChaNgE SMUG crowd, trying to sell it on "doing something good for the environment" and personally I think thats the wrong...
  • Post in thread: Charging External DIY Battery that charges Solar Generator

Just to follow up, I have now been doing this for a few weeks, I have a Chinns "48v" 100ah battery that charges my Dabbsson DBS2300 and a PowMr 60 Amp Solar Charge controller (that has never put out more then 1.1 Kw with my current panel configuration running in a 3s2p configuration with 3...

No, amps don't work that way. the device (charge controller or inverter won't (or shouldn't) "pull" more amps then it is rated for, the device taking the power decides the amps, not the panels. amps are the flow, volts are the pushing force, thats why over volting damages but over amping doesn't.
  • Post in thread: How to run a 2900 sqft all electric home from 6000 watts of PV

IF you DIY the batteries you can get 14.3 Kwh capacity for about $1,600-1,700 from DocanPower's USA stock (not including a case to hold them) thats like somewhere about $110-120 per KwH of capacity.
  • Post in thread: Ryobi Zero-Turn Mower SLA to LiFePo4 Conversion - (Updated - Build Complete With Pics!)

not great to be honest, I got my mower with just enough time to do a couple mows before the end of the season of 2021, my first set of batteries where at half their capacity inside of the first year, got them replaced under warranty in 2022, in 2023 the mower started jerking (like as if...
  • Post in thread: Charging External DIY Battery that charges Solar Generator

So I had a thought, we all have seen the videos on Youtube of using a DIY battery or any other battery that is within the voltage range of the solar input on the Power Station to "expand" the capacity of the power station without having to buy a power stations over priced battery add-on and that...
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar and Panel Pallets, Expected Better

OK so like others here I ordered a pallet of Panels during the "Black Friday" sale, the morning before and the morning after i had placed my panel order they had been showing like they where out of stock (and they very well may have been and it was just a glitch in the system when I placed my...
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar and Panel Pallets, Expected Better

That was pretty much the point I was trying to get across, SS needs to do better at picking shippers, they should have enough experience to know who does good and who doesn't, if an extra $50 or so on shipping will get us a better shipper we would all be fine with that. as for the unloading, it...
  • Post in thread: Charging External DIY Battery that charges Solar Generator

@wwu123 As a general rule, the amount of amps is determined by the device "pulling" the power, so in your case the Solix F3800, if the Solix can pull up to 25 amps and you connect it to the LOAD on an SCC that has a lower LOAD amp rating you will damage the SCC (this is specifically stated in...
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar - Pallet of Panels - Shipper Issue

I did just have a thought, if instead of laying the panels on their sides they where stood up on their ends then a 2x4 frame could be built around them on a standard single pallet (thats been reinforced with a solid sheet of plywood on top) could handle most pallets of panels and so could...
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar and Panel Pallets, Expected Better

The 3 week delay with no communication until I messaged them in actually getting things shipped out and the fact they chose ABF as the shipper (when a simple google search shows they have a horrible reputation) are absolutely on SS, the delivery side is on the freight company for sure, but you...
  • Post in thread: Bluetti AC180 x 2 14 Renogy 100W Solar panels and my experiences so far.

OK, first off, DO NOT WIRE 3 of those panels in Series, yeah sure i theory you are right about the 60v limit, but what you are failing to remember is TEMPERATURE in colder temperatures the Voltage will be higher and that will fry your AC180, secondly by the time you bought 14 100 watt panels you...
  • Post in thread: Too many Panels, so little Time...

Ok, lets try to simplify this, there are 3 aspects to Electricity: Voltage, Amps and Ohms (resistance), the relationship is defined with Ohm's Law. a battery or solar panel (when the sun is shining on it) has a Voltage but NO CURRENT (when they aren't connected to anything), this can be...
  • Post in thread: Seeking advice: repurpose small setup for home space heater

it's simple math, resistive heat is 1:1 watts in to watts of heat out regardless the input voltage you need like 3,000 BTU's to heat up an 8'x8'x8' room, a 300 watt "cab heater" is only about a 1,000 BTU's, you can just use something that needs less watts to run because that means less heat...
  • Post in thread: Hooterville Co Op noticed my EG4 Solar A/C with 2700W ground mount panels - need advice on response?

it's pretty straight forward, they saw the panels and NEED to KNOW for the safety of the LINEMEN whether those panels are in a position to where they can be backfeeding the grid, this is a legitimate safety concern for the power company, they have every right to know if you are doing something...
  • Post in thread: Signature Solar and EG4 12k BTU Solar Mini-Split

I initially thought about going with an EG4 minisplit that had direct solar input, then I thought about it, unless you just have PERFECT SUN at all times it doesn't make sense, most people that get them (from what I saw) end up tying them back to the house grid so they don't shut off when a...
  • Post in thread: Charging External DIY Battery that charges Solar Generator

I'm NOT using the "Load" output on the PowMr SCC, the configuration is the PowMr is connected to the Chins battery and the solar panels are then connected to the PowMr, I then have another set of leads coming directly off the battery and going to the solar input connection on the Dabbsson, in...
  • Post in thread: Using a solar generator daily

After a Week of waiting for my 2 100 watt panels to charge up the power station I just started doing this a day or 2 ago, I use it to power my USB run devices and my laptop (as all this can run off the USB outputs since the power station has a 100w PD Type C port) for the 6-8 hours a day I spend...
  • Post in thread: Ryobi Zero-Turn Mower SLA to LiFePo4 Conversion - (Updated - Build Complete With Pics!)

The voltage curve on Lifepo4 batteries is quite a bit more severe then the stock SLA's from the facebook group i'm in, if you drain the Lifepo4 battery low enough to have it cut off you are stuck, as it doesn't have the "bounce back" that SLA's get. This is simply what i've read, I haven't...
  • Post in thread: Anyone here an "expert" on the Inflation Reduction Act in regards to Batteries?

I've been trying to read up on Batteries in terms of the IRA 30% tax credit, I know they have to be New and they have to have a minimum capacity of 3Kwh and I know manufactures get all kinds of tax incentives for making them, but my question is do you have to buy a prebuilt battery or can you...
  • Post in thread: Experiences with LG Electronics (LG Chem RESU 7kW Battery.)

I have both an LG Fridge and an LG Washing Machine, washing machine is closing in on a decade old (received October 2015) and fridge is 6 and a half years old, I tried an LG TV but didn't like how washed out and poor contrast it was compared to other TV's once I actually set it up. I also used...
  • Post in thread: Comparing Portable Systems

Well none that I know of are "hackable" beyond using a second battery connected to the solar charger input to charge the internal battery and honestly if you are looking to expand beyond the built in battery (which you 100% will want to) you will be cheaper off building your own setup. Also it...
