  • Post in thread: Do you really need to vent/fan a lifepo4 battery box?

In my last battery box, I installed heating pads for heating and a fan for cooling. It's just the battery in the box, so I didn't really think it needed cooling and I thought the holes for vent and fan would impede the heating when it gets real cold during winter camping. I was considering not...
  • Post in thread: Running microwave shutting down BMS

That makes sense, I didn't think about it running full power for less time. Thanks for the help! The inverter microwave sounds interesting. I'll have to do more research on it!
  • Post in thread: First build questions

Hi all! I am planning to build a 12v pack with four 280 ah Eve cells from Docan for my 5th wheel. Is there any preference between the stud terminals or the screw ins? I was considering the overkill 120amp bms but wasn’t sure if I should get one that could handle more amperage. I don’t think...

I did not know about that 60% rule! Thanks!!
  • Post in thread: Adding 6 x 100 watt Renogy panels - which config: 3 serial x 2 parallel OR 2 serial x 3 parallel?

Hi all, I am adding 6 x 100 watt Renogy panels - which config: 3 serial x 2 parallel OR 2 serial x 3 parallel? I was thinking the 3s x 2p would be better due to the higher voltage. I'm using 10 gauge wire with about a 20ft run, so it might not matter. The downside I could think of might...
  • Post in thread: Does anyone know what this is?

I picked up a used LifePo4 battery and this was hooked up to the cells, but was not connected to anything. Anyone know what it is? Thanks! G
  • Post in thread: Running microwave shutting down BMS

Hi all, I built a 280AH battery using a 120amp Overkill BMS. I've got a 2200 watt pure sine inverter and I tried to run my rv microwave and it shut down the bms. Looking at the specs on the microwave, it takes a 1500 watt as input, 1000 watt as output. So that makes sense... 1500w / 12v =...

What do you think about this controller? https://www.amazon.com/Renogy-Wanderer-Amp-12V-24V/dp/B07NPDWZJ7/ref=psdc_2236627011_t1_B072MMDY4F
  • Post in thread: Top Balancing Issues

Hi All, Doing my first build and I got 4 - 280AH Eve cells from Docan. The cells arrived at 3.1 volts. Put them in parallel and using a newly purchased Dr. Meter 30V/ 10A DC Power Supply, went on to charging. Set the charger to 3.65 volts at max amps. Three days later, the cells are at...
  • Post in thread: Would this wire work?

My neighbor gave me a box of wire he was getting rid of and I found some pretty thick wire and was wondering if it would be any good to use between my batteries and my inverter? (12V and 2000 watt inverter) It reads Southwire E32071 3 CRD 2 AWG 1 CDR 4 AWG. So I believe that means it has 3...
  • Post in thread: Found a good possible battery box

I've been on the hunt for a box that I could put two DIY Lifepo4's in and fit in my front storage area in my 5er. I think that I found it and wanted to share! I was checking out of Cabela's today and right past the checkout was a stack of different Plano Sportsman's Totes. The medium tote...

  • Post in thread: Overkill BMS Battery Under Voltage Parameter question

Hi all, I am setting up my Overkill BMS for the first time (I'm a newbie) and looked up what the manual says to set the Protection Parameters (screen shot below) and am not sure I am understanding the Battery Under Voltage parameter correctly. It seems to use the same formula as the Battery...
  • Post in thread: 2 new to me trojan 6 volts

Thanks for the help!! Yes, they are T105REs. Just so I make sure I understand you, take the old batteries and put them in parallel, then put the new batteries in parallel, then connect both pairs together in series for 12 volts. I had actually read to do the opposite, put each pair in series...
  • Post in thread: Questions on adding new LifePO4 batteries to RV battery bank

Hi all, I built a 280Ah battery last year for my rv and need more storage. I am building a new 230Ah battery and have acquired a used 200Ah battery as well. I am planning on connecting these in parallel, but was curious if it is ok to wire the negative from each bms to the terminal posts on...
  • Post in thread: Got 4 free Solarex sx-20 panels...now what?

Thanks Snoobler! Yes, I have looked at a few kits on amazon that were pretty cheap, but since these were FREE :) I figured I'd play around and start looking for ways to take advantage of them! Any thoughts on the wiring options? Not serial vs. parallel, but more towards the type/gauge of...
  • Post in thread: Adding 6 x 100 watt Renogy panels - which config: 3 serial x 2 parallel OR 2 serial x 3 parallel?

I’ve got a Victron 100/50 for the charge controller. I have the panels, so I was using what I had. Is there any benefit of fewer bigger panels?
  • Post in thread: DC-DC charger needed?

Thanks so much for the replies and the great detailed info. I understand it MUCH better/clearer now!! Thanks again!!
  • Post in thread: 2 new to me trojan 6 volts

Hi all, I just picked up two 6 volt trojan batteries which are 2 years old, but were really taken care of. I have 2 similar aged 6 volts in my camper, also in good shape. I was thinking on adding the two new ones to my existing, but was told by a buddy that that was a bad idea. I wanted to...
  • Post in thread: CATL LFP cell model code "31"

Hello! I picked up a used LIFEPO4 battery on FB marketplace and am trying to identify the cells. My phone grabbed one of the codes: 001CBNBA82616H82W2E00132RC (I had to drop the last RC). I tried the site above, but it couldn't identify the nominal capacity for some reason, which is the...
  • Post in thread: Running microwave shutting down BMS

I was wondering if I added a second battery in parallel, would it split the amperage draw? Or would it still try and pull the full amount from either battery?
  • Post in thread: Running microwave shutting down BMS

That's smart!! Where did you get the cells? I'd love to see how you set that up. Any pics?
  • Post in thread: Running microwave shutting down BMS

That might be an easy solution to my issue. Would I have to add the same size battery? Or could I add a smaller 100AH Lithium battery?
  • Post in thread: Got 4 free Solarex sx-20 panels...now what?

Hi all, I have been really interested in getting solar for my camper, but have not been able to justify the cost quite yet. Talking with a buddy about this and he gave me 4 old Solarex (BP) SX-20 panels that he came by. I guess they were used to power road signs a bunch of years ago. They...
  • Post in thread: Running microwave shutting down BMS

I got mine from Docan. It was a fun project, but I'm not sure I'd do it again with all of the cheap batteries popping up on Amazon. Not quite as cost efficient. I did build in a heater and fan in the box, which adds protection is pretty cool though! :D
  • Post in thread: Charge controller question

Was watching Will's video on comparing PWM and MPPT controllers and was confused about something. He had a 100 watt panel going into a 12v battery on a sunny day. The PWM's were putting in 69w's to the battery while the MPPT's were putting 71w's. Basically the same... I thought that...
  • Post in thread: DC-DC charger needed?

I am planning on swapping my FLD battery bank to a DIY Lithium bank in my 5th wheel and I was not sure if I needed to also install a DC-DC converter to protect the alternator in my f350? I don't need the truck to charge the batteries, but don't want to damage the alternator. Also, not sure if...
  • Post in thread: Got 4 free Solarex sx-20 panels...now what?

Thank you! This is great! Looking at the wire options, does it matter if it is stranded or solid? I think stranded would be more flexible, but solid may do better...?
