Thanks everyone for the advice. The system is running nicely with 2 sets of 2 panels in series. He is regularly seeing over 1000 watts on his charge controller and over 80 amps going into his 12 volt battery setup.

The battery bank is 14 GC2 Golf cart batteries. They are wired in series to create 12v and then in parallel. The total Ah is around 1600. The issue with moving to a 24volt system is the 12 volt Xantrex inverter charger that he is running and would rather not replace at this time.
