Finished up another 10lb batch of pucked and corned FFg black powder for the stash...
  • Post in thread: Has anyone managed to get 4 gauge THWN wire to fit on LV6548 inverter?

This was my solution to fitting 4AWG THHN/THWN-2 in those smallish terminals. Freshly stripped 4awg 10awg crimp die and hydraulic crimping tool. Fits very well.
  • Post in thread: Underfloor heating.... outside!

I've installed quite a few heated slabs/sidewalks over the years. If you don't fully insulate below your heat source, your system will not be very efficient... You may also want to consider a glycol based antifreeze instead of the water.
  • Post in thread: How much do your panels produce when it is overcast and raining?

I just received some new panels last week. 415Watt Mono PERK 1/2 cut with STC VOC of 38.82 The next morning I opened a pair to test the voltage. Cool temps 38F and clear skies. At 11:00 am and a 30 degree angle the VOC was 36.2. Three hours later a front had moved in and I retested. Overcast and...
  • Post in thread: What's the trick to fitting 0 gauge wire on this breaker

If you have crimpers (everybody should), crimp just the wire with the appropriate die or setting so its slightly smaller in diameter.
  • Post in thread: First off grid system questions

I have roughly the same system (few more panels and the server rack batteries) 1- The inverter is not bonded. E-mail verification from sun gold power and a visual by me. 2- I use a 600V / 32amp pv isolator. 3- I use a victron on/off battery switch, 275amp/48V nominal, You will also want a 200amp...
  • Post in thread: WTF Home Depot? 14/30 cord end $52?

I purchased a L14/30R (female/receptacle) and a L14/30P (Male/Plug) ends last week at Lowes to wire in my chargeverter to the battery room. Both were under $25.00. Saw similar at HD this week for roughly the same price.

    No cannon. Muzzleloaders and fireworks.
  • Post in thread: How fancy does racking have to be?

I have installed 3 different roof arrays on metal trapezoidal roofs using these z brackets. Brackets bolt to panels, foot is attached to the flat of the roof with exposed fasteners directly into the purlins. The foot has a pre-installed butyl seal. Its the most secure and cheapest way I have...
  • Post in thread: Any recommendations for a 115 v on demand water pump.

I'm off grid as well and have discarded quite a few on demand pumps over the years. None lived up to my expectations. Been running this https://www.harborfreight.com/1-hp-stainless-steel-shallow-well-pump-and-tank-with-pressure-control-switch-950-gph-63407.html for 3 years with zero issues. You...
  • Post in thread: Recommendations on exposed fastener metal roof mount

I went with no rails. Trapezoidal metal roof, S5 VersaBracket-67 mounted on the flat, directly into the purlins, in portrait. Roof metal profile and panel width will determine panel spacing. Purlin spacing on center will determine where the brackets mount on the panels. EZ-PZ after doing the...
  • Post in thread: Looking for suggestions for hardware to mount solar panels on southern face of quonset hut.....

Installed this last year, I know how many attachment points you have. Shouldn't be too difficult to use some "L" angle and/or uni-strut to bolt directly to the (thousands of) bolts connecting the arches. As stated Landscape will probably work best. If you don't have panels yet, you could...
  • Post in thread: 1st charge out of the box settings?

Brand New, approx 50% SOC. Manual - Recommended charge Voltage - 54.5V Manual - Standard Charge Current - 50A Is this the preferred settings or are there "Better" Recommendations? I'm in no hurry, batteries will not be installed for several weeks.
  • Post in thread: 1st charge out of the box settings?

Thank you, I will definitely keep an eye on them while charging. I suspected 50A was a little harsh.
  • Post in thread: Off grid grounding.

Thank you, that is the answer I was looking for. Yes, only PV frames grounded. Now to determine how to disable the N-G bond in the inverter. The user manual isn't clear or I cannot find it. Anyone who has disabled it in the SP6548 please let me know,
  • Post in thread: 1st charge out of the box settings?

    (y) Understood. Just a few more bits to be delivered this week. (There were a lot of bits :))

Just a follow-up. Reply from SunGoldPower. https://signaturesolar.com/blog/demystifying-neutral-ground-bonding-in-solar-power-systems-with-eg4-inverters/Also found this at Signature Solar.

Looks nice. How long is the power supply cable? Mine will be here Monday as well.
  • Post in thread: Off grid grounding.

I know there are many discussions on the topic but I am still confused. This will be a 1st time install (DIY) in a totally off grid cabin. The system will be a SunGold Power 6548 inverter, 8x 415watt panels and 2x 48v 100ah server rack batteries. Is this crude diagram of the grounding of the...

That is strange, My 25-06 Bolt action is a pleasure to shoot compared to my 30-06 semi.
  • Post in thread: Off grid grounding.

Thank you, that helps a lot. I will contact Sun Gold Power to see if indeed the bonding screw has been removed.
  • Post in thread: Genset to Chargeverter question.

So, are you saying I can charge the batteries with the chargeverter via generator and supply a load from the batteries at the same time? That would really simplify thing if possible.
  • Post in thread: Genset to Chargeverter question.

Off-grid planning stage. Would like to supply ac in power to a 120v single phase inverter from a generator 240V L14-30R outlet by using 1 leg of the outlet to the inverter for small loads, and the other leg to also supply 120V via a TT-30R to a chargeverter fitted with a TT-30P. Any issues to be...
