Easy to fix old reliable vs New techie long term survival...

Is any of the old stuff better to have because it is easy to fix and requires less parts and easier to access parts to keep them going long term compared to the new stuff? Can some of the older stuff do enough to keep you happy and keep piece of mind for long term usage with less headaches? Thanks for any information to help steer me in the right direction...
