Is there a market for used Sol-Ark 15k???

Hello Everyone,

I purchased a Sol-ark 15k back in May of 2022 before they came out with the 15k EMP-Hardened. I am wanting to see if there is a market for used Sol-Ark 15ks. I am weighing my options and I wanted to see if I could sell the 15K so I could purchase a 15K EMP-Hardened model instead. So is there a market for used 15Ks? It has been used for the past year or so with no issues whatsoever. I am located in Phoenix. I am obviously not ready to sell it right now but just checking to see if I could even get it sold.

Side note, I spoke with Sol-Ark and there is nothing I can do to EMP Hardened it myself and they will not provide details on what they do to harden the actual inverter. I know they provide a ton of ferrites to place on all the wires but that is all I know.

I could see someone being interested if you're willing to sell it for 50% or less of the new price. Used, no one could get a 30% tax rebate.

I'm in the Phoenix area and see stuff listed on Craigslist, but when I see it, I get the impression its listed a while.

Oof, didn’t think about the tax credit. Are you able to use the tax credit a second time? If someone wants to update a pre-existing system they already received the credit for are you able to get another 30% on new components? I wonder if I could get it on a new EMP Hardened one to help eat some of the cost!

Yeah, I don’t think the Phoenix area has a high number of solar DIYers compared to other places.

Thanks, it’s close enough to everything and the main panel is on the other side of the wall so it’s still easily accessible.
 
Not a tax advisor. When I asked that question on a forum, others had claimed new equipment multiple times.
 
Agree on the 50% or less.

And the longer you wait, the lower the price you'll get. No one wants a last generation inverter unless it's a legendary one, like a Trace SW.
 
I would keep it. There's no guarantee "EMP hardened" will do anything. It's a good marketing gimmick though.

If an EMP goes off and it fails, who are you going to call...assuming you could place a call?

It would be cheaper to get a backup unit like a 6000XP and put it in a faraday box or something just in case you have a failure and need something to get you by while the other one is being repaired/replaced.

Limited Warranty: Sol-Ark 15K-2P-N 10-Year Limited Warranty for Sol-Ark LLC Products. Sol-Ark LLC provides a Ten-year (10) limited Warranty ("Warranty") against defects in materials and workmanship for its Sol-Ark LLC products ("Product"). The term of this warranty begins on the Product(s) initial purchase date, or the date of receipt of the Product(s) by the end user, whichever is later. This must be indicated on the invoice, bill of sale from your installer. This warranty applies to the original Sol-Ark LLC Product purchaser and is transferable only if the Product remains installed in the original use location. Please call Sol-Ark LLC to let us know if you are selling your Home and give us name and contact of the new owner.

Keep the old one in a Faraday cage as your truly emp hardened 15k. If the hardened one fails, you have a working one (until the next nuclear bomb goes off).

2 is 1, and 1 is none.
 
50% would be the minimum discount to start. I’d consider it as a spare/backup to mine in service, but again that would depend heavily on the cost to me.

As Timselectric said, you buy new equipment (even if it’s to replace virtually the same device) it’s eligible for the credit. So you’d get 30% on your new EMP 15k

I understand your point for sure. However, Sol-ark does not just put EMP hardened for nothing. See their EMI testing https://www.sol-ark.com/emp-test-15K.pdf
Now could this all be fake sure haha but I don’t think they would want to go through all of that for a sales gimmick. EMI hardened devices are around and used for sensitive electronics all the time. Now does the testing actually replicate what would happen during a true EMP or coronal mass ejection, who knows!

If an EMP goes off, I dont think my worry would be who to call for my inverter! But I would rather have something that has some potential of surviving than something that isn’t tested at all.

But you bring up a good point, never even thought of having a backup cheaper inverter! Thank you!

Sounds clear to me that it’s not transferable, though I am not sure I ever registered it to my address anyways haha! But never even thought of the warranty.

I’d be interested in the 15K when you are ready to change out. I’m also in PHX.
