Opened up a ruixu battery. Not impressed...

Haha! Lifepo4 cells are like gold, and I am scrooge hehe :D

We need to find a high quality BMS for lifepo4 4s that has low temp disconnect to pair with these cells. Any suggestions?

WOW ! Thanks Will for ripping that beast apart and showing it like it is... The real irony is, they likely spent more time bodging it together with that stuff than if they would have used good stuff right from the get go. I wonder about that BMS, hopefully someone can actually track it down.

Geez, I am wondering seriously about the ShunBin I bought, it won't see power till I have the cover off, luckily it's a screwed on Stainless Steal cover.

Would be nice to see the "Guts" of SimpliPhi, ReLion and the other known good brands as well as the value brands and the cheapo bargain basement specials. Unfortunately some companies perceive such examination as an "attack" rather than taking it for lessons learned and correcting it. Our greatest learning has been achieved through repeated mistakes.

On BMS, Doesn't TinyBMS have one that would work ?

EDIT: A quick glance and it appears TinyBMS could handle it. 4 to 16 cells. but at 159 Euro.+ bits off their website

Thanks for the eye opening tear-down. You mentioned LiFeBlue and Lion Energy (I assume the UT 1300) as batteries to test. How about adding the new Renogy "Smart" LiFePO4 to the list too?

I have one coming. Renogy loves sending me stuff haha I cant wait. They make good stuff though. But we will see.

And yes, the UT 1300. Should be sweet. And easy to open and test.

Right!? It takes a lot of effor to have someone stuff all of that padding in there, and hand solder those crappy wires. So many better options than to do it this way.

Yes, I will get a expensive, or possibly UL listed battery to teardown soon. That would be awesome!

Oh right, the tiny bms. pretty pricey for what you get, but yes, has all the features we need. I am hoping we can find something for cheaper.

Also, I think you used to have the prior version of Renogy batteries on your site (not sure why you took them down - if it's because they're crap ignore this post). I'm wondering if they're good enough to qualify as a decent "budget" option in the interim given that they're $800 now.

Dang it! I just ordered 2 ruixu batteries to replace my dying AGMs. I may end up tearing them apart for the cells if they don't perform as well. I live in Florida so I'm not too concerned with low temp cut off, but the high temperature may be an issue. Thanks for ding this Will. I've been following your Youtube channel for a while and is always very informative!

Way to go Will ! loved that when you pulled out the jigsaw,no stopping a man on a mission. I was surprised to see the "bluey" cells in there as i figured Ruixi cells where black plastic cased, hope they don't get pissed when they see this video and realize the good WILL being shared here and if they improve their battery the rewards WILL follow in the number of batteries they sell.

Batteries are a Pandora's box. You buy them and sit there looking at them for the next few years wondering what's inside but do you dare open it and find out?!

I recently bought a 100 AH battery from Sendon battery and so far it seems very good. I ordered it with a Bluetooth BMS that has low and high temp settings you can adjust.... gotta use the updated "pro" version of the app to change the settings.
I did a lot of communication with Alice Dou and she was very responsive .... I am sure she could tell you the part # of the BMS .... or I can send her as message and ask if anyone is interested.

Decisions, decisions ? To peek or not to peek ?? If you open your warranty goes south. ⚡? But that overwhelming curiosity is pretty heavy. What’s an inquiring mind to do???
Back away slowly from that tool box grasshopper. If it ain’t broke yet don’t fix it. If it fails once out of warranty, THEN let the surgery commence.
or if one can’t stand it anymore...just bust that sucker open. Aahhh? LOL

@Bob B looking through that link it appears they only offer lead acid. I didn’t see anything LiFePo listed.

Those solder joints in the battery leads are a scary thing. There doesn't seem to be any mechanical securing of the wires, ie, it's all down to the solder to keep things together. If they ever get hot enough for the solder to become plastic, say a fault or just sustained high current within normal operating ranges, they will move / release.

Soldering is fine if there is mechanical support. That could be correctly twisted wires with wire wrapping, a crimp connector, etc. Personally I prefer to properly crimp high current joints.

Made a mistake! The ruixu does not have aluminum wires. They felt super brittle when I flexed them and its a cheap battery, but they are tinned copper. Silly me. Doesn't change much, because 4x 14 gauge wires should not be pushing 100A for prolonged duration. I am editing it out of the video right now. Oops!

Yes, agreed gnubie!!

I do not see any listings for lifepo4 under the "lifepo4" section. Am I missing something here?
