B.W.F. (Before Will's Forum) ... I had never even heard of a "Raspberry Pi", untill I noticed some of my fellow, brilliant peers talking about all the things they were doing to control and monitor their solar energy systems using Raspberry Pi. Recently, I noticed some of my peers lamenting the passing of cool stuff like Heathkits and feeling a loss that a great many people in the general populous nowadays just don't seem interested in involving themselves technically and engaging and growing their minds like times past. Then, I thought of the Raspberry Pi people, who are very much engaging and learning and challenging themselves in ways other than being spectators in life. Hats off to the Raspberry Pi people for you will save the planet! ☮

if you want to start easy, you better go to Arduino that is cheaper and have a very nice BASIC language to start programming.
also an arduino is eating almost no energy, so for solar project it could be an asset.

Good tip that I won't forget, thanks.

That's a good observation that the idea/philosophy behind heathkits isn't dead...it's transformed to computers on chips, 3D printing, DIY batteries, and tons of other stuff....

There are still a great many talented and engaged people around indeed, they just aren't as apparent as the screen scrolling strollers because they are busy!

I really got to like the Raspi's and what they do. All the software being free and the community behind it all is pretty great in general. The new 4B with 4KHD Video capabilities & 4GB ram is pretty slick IMO. Many do not realize it but there are several operating systems that Raspi can use from hard core command line Linux to beautiful graphical media rich interfaces... all as cheap as Free Beer !

Yeah, I'm one of the Heathkit kids who grew up with "tinkering" and inventing ;-) things....

Might be a thought to have a Software Developer Corner for Raspi, Arduino etc.

Great Idea having a Raspberry Pi sub forum. Hats off also the the alternative energy people that produce their own electrical power.
