I know there is plenty of smart people here. Tell me why this is a poor design.

From what I see:
Pros:
- no exposed blades means its safe around boat sails. Hoist and forget it.
Cons:
- Fixed sized makes PITA to store.
- Efficiency will be less than traditional systems.
