Mini Split AC

So, I'm watching it. As an openered It'd be classed as an inverter model, ie variable speed compressor. Nothing special there these days for a new unit but there'd be a heck of a lot of full tilt or nothing style AC units in service still.

Splitties aren't common in the US? They are more or less the preferred choice here. If you can't install a splitty a window rattler is the next option, assuming you don't have wads of cash in your pockets and can afford a central system.

I get there is nothing special about the unit.

No clue what you meant by "but there'd be a heck of a lot of full tilt or nothing style AC units in service still "

Splitty = split system with inside unit on wall and outside unit ... outside. As per the clip. Window rattler = in window box style.

Guy says he runs his mini split AC 24/7

I watched his video also.
i don’t disagree with his findings. A mini split like his or better should have no issue running 24/7 (actually less demand on the equipment that way) I think I left some comments on his video also. Do any of you have any questions about them?

I have the Frigidaire FFRE0533S1 5000 BTU window unit. It has the lowest power consumption of any I could find.

The max it uses is 410 watts, it has a soft start and an ECO mode that doesn't run the fan when cycling, except for 20 seconds every 10 minutes.

When in cool mode and cycling the fan runs and uses about 65 watts. When the compressor kicks on it will use about 335 watts and very slowly raises until it gets to 410. Then once it hits the set temp the compressor shuts off and it cycles.

It was only $189 and it works great.

My problem with the split units is they are $1000-$1500 for 3 different ones I'm looking at, but I have no way to know which would be the best one to get and how much more efficient will it really be compared to my window unit. Since I don't want to waste money, I do nothing.

I left a comment asking the guy for actual numbers that he is seeing, but he has yet to reply back.

I can measure amp draw and voltage with my service tools on the equipment and log it for the forum.

I install and service a lot of these.
I picked up a GREE 12K unit for $450 a few months back, and will tie it into my project house soon. I honk it is only a 16SEER model though.

I also have a 36K unit I setup in SUBWAY restaurants when one of their RTU systems fails and needs scheduled replacement not in a timely manner.i can test that one as well.

another bakery I work in has a new 60K unit I installed with 24K wall blowers, and one 12K blower for the seating areas. He loves it, but Fujitsu designed a rotten line stub with iron coils around it... and they are rusting... I need to tear them out and clean up a mess... ugh.

I was looking at the Mitsubishi MZ-FH06NA 6K BTU 33.1 SEER

They sent me the below file. But it's above my head.

I have kept my eye on that one too! Very high Seer rating. I also like that it constantly runs instead of cutting on and off all the time which would waste alot of energy.

I am interested in mini splits as well. I don't know a lick about electricity, though I am trying to learn, so this might be completely irrelevant, but I saw this guy's vid the other day. He is running his 18000 BTU 240V Mr. Cool unit off of house power, but he measures it during heating and cooling at the panel at around the 17 minute mark - I think his is a 16 seer - I've seen as high as 24 before. He said in the comments that Mr. Cool makes a 48V DC unit, and someone else in the comments is claiming that Mr. Cool makes some hybrid solar thing.

I'll gladly delete this post if it's just useless noise.

Scroll down on this page for a list of websites with hybrid/solar units. They aren't all good, but there are a few that are and you can at least get the model numbers of available options to search for out there.

Roger, did you ever get those numbers you requested from David (Goneboondocking)?

I have them if you are still intetested!
