Hi,
I'm trying to rack up 3 eg4 batteries. Ideally rack would be castered for mobility. Any suggestions that are more affordable than the EG4 branded rack at $450?
Thanks.

What houseofancients said. A data center that is selling off old equipment is what I would look for. However, be sure you know what size rack your batteries needs. Not all server racks are the same.

Are standard server racks going to be up to the weight of these batteries?

half size definitely ( should be enough for 6), if in doubt add a metal bottom plate to be welded in

if you are looking for a 42u , look for a SAN rack, and make sure it is NOT mobile and ancored to the ground..
12*50KG is 600 KG ( 1200 pounds ) and that is a hell of a weight

These server racks have been used to mount UPS batteries in server rooms for decades. It’s only recently these racks have been used in the solar industry. Not sure why it took so long for the manufacturer to go this route because it seems like such an easy starting place. They seem late to the party really.

I'm building one from the boltless metal shelving parts from Global. There are several height posts available, 18" and 24" shelf supports, and ToolGuyRepublic has ad on casters that are compatible with the boltless shelf systems. Plenty of capacity, only really lacking in an integrated buss bar.

The EG4 rack is junk simply because the busbar design is horrible and ruins an otherwise great rack. Any 19” rack mount server rack with a door will do in my opinion.

Agree. I’ve seen pics here where someone heatshrink-wrapped the bus bars but personally I’d just take them out. They’re an invitation to sparks flying.

In another thread it was stated that SS is replacing busbars for anyone who had the poorly constructed thread insert issue and that it should no longer happen with newly built racks coming out now. Although someone recently had asked for a replacement and gotten just as bad of one so they really should be visually verifying they are okay until they are sure all the bad ones are no longer in stock.
