My Base Electric Rate is Increasing by 31.5% Next Month

Your increased base rate is still 50% of mine and much less than most…
Yes, and it is also still going up over 30% :)

Laughing. Almost $1 per kWh in San Diego now from 4-9 PM.
I lived in SD for 15 years. I was running 5 servers out of my house when SDG&E thought it would be cool to take out their frustrations on the customer base and instituted rolling blackouts. Then I got on my cruiser and hit Lahiana's...all was good. ;)

Interesting. I pay $0.18 per kwh here in PA. You are paying $0.058 per kwh in Texas, but I am not sure if this includes distribution costs as well. We have separate generation and distribution costs.

Okay, many, many people only have grid tied inverters, not hybrid inverters or AC coupled systems. Many are still paying for their systems and simply do not have the funds to spend. Also, in my case, my original solar installer in 2015 now out of business. I have to find a new company and all any of these companies want to do is rush in and sell you a Tesla power wall or Panasonic and leave in a day. they don't want to consult on proper capacities and best hardware practices. People are weary too when the Public Utilities Commission keeps changing the rules of the game. payback here on NEM 3.0 close to 12 years now.

Wait till your electric bills contain a "PCIA" charge on them. That is the latest California consumer scam.

That is just the base rate...but, I think we end up around 10.3 cents per.

Let's all be honest...I don't think we are doing this for the investment. :)

The last few years the power has gone out for extended periods...this year's ice storm knocked out our power for 5 days. It is a big premium to be able to deal with that on our own, but it sounds like a fun project and better than the suicide cord I built to back feed one of our generators.

But, I also factored in the avoided cost of a large generator when power goes out in February and it's 3.6 degrees. I'm on a well so if I lose power I also lose water.

I factored in the cost of an emergency wood stove.

So all in all ,solar works out- I think ?

We already have "pay the generator operators to be able to actually generate energy when its cold" and the "give people like Jerry Jones money" charges... Thanks.

?
I'm on city water and still lost water when I lost power during the freeze a few years back. It seems they lost power to the water plant and then ran out of fuel for their generators or some such or couldn't keep them going in the cold.

I had family who didn't have water for over a week during the great freeze of 21. I always wondered why. Thanks for the explanation

Is that you brother? I had no power or water for a week. It was a delight. I lucked out though, my pipes didn't burst.

My well pressure pump froze and cracked. Ordered a new one the next day. It sat in a ups trailer for almost three weeks before it made it here. Once it did, I had it in place in about five minutes. That’s when my daughter let me know that there was a “waterfall on the back of the house”…the on demand hot water heater suffered a catastrophic freeze event as well. We were boiling snow to fill the toilets on a propane burner outside until we were able to use 4wd to get to my neighbors house to fill up giant white igloo coolers with his well water.

Fortunately, we had plenty of bottled water and food on hand.

Good times!
