I am going to try a DIY mini-split!

Great, thanks! I have all the gear ,(vacuum pumps, gauges for many refrigerants, nitrogen purge system, etc) BUT I only have an EPA 609 license, and thus can't buy or work with R-410A. So unless the precharge compressor and inside coil include a bit of extra refrigerant for filling the lineset...

So is it just the line sets that may or may not be pre-charged?

I am going to try a DIY mini-split!

High temperatures here have been running around 101˚f/38˚c. The solar power equipment is in a small concrete block shed. A few years ago I put in a 14k BTU "Through the wall" AC unit, powered by the inverters @ 240vac. (The previous owner had already made the wall opening and installed a...

Who's fresh air cooling your equipment and how are your temps?

Mine is mounted on the West wall of a concrete block shed. Setting Sun heats up the wall. I put a shade outside to keep the wall cooler. Insulated the doors, which the thermal camera identified as a heat source. Put a large box fan blowing on the system from across the room The best thing was...

    conext gateway online but inaccessible

Thanks JustJoe! I have a 3 year old Conext gateway (865-0329) It is running v1.17, XW-Pro's are running 1.11.01bn49. I powered off the gateway, removed the original micro-SD, put in a generic 32G micro-SD, (Lexar 32GB ), powered up the gateway. After a few minutes, logged in and was...

Shunt trip breaker XW Pro grid ideas?

Yes. When the heat pump is running. I plan to open the breaker w/ the heat pump turned off, then start the heat pump afterwards . For some reason, this procedure does not effect the heat pump.

Shunt trip breaker XW Pro grid ideas?

Investigating methods to open a breaker remotely. All the solar electronics are installed in a shed, 200 ft. behind the house. There is 60A 2P Square D QO breaker in the shed that provides grid power to the Schneider XW Pro inverters for "Grid Support". I need to open this breaker from the...

Thanks,Dad, For Teaching Me to DIY Stuff

I like DIY projects! Dad passed when I was 2, mom never re-married, so I grew up alone. (mom was always working) She had kept his tools from WW2 Navy work. No way to pay anyone, so I learned how to fix things around the house at a young age. Carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, masonry...

    QO vs Homeline

I always use QO, probably because all the industrial work I did years ago was QO. Local Home Depot has most sizes in stock, but I also look @ ebay for used QO breakers. I buy whatever lot is available and sort them out, cost is a fraction of new, and they still work great.

    Grounding and Starlink

I have used these to protect POE Ethernet, in cases where running fiber was not practical: https://www.polyphaser.com/gigabit-ethernet,-poe-surge-protector-lightning-arrestor-series

Anyone in the US still on the Starlink wait list?

Yep, Winnebago, built on a Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Diesel truck chassis. Just enough for two of us, 13-14 MPG towing a little Honda.

Anyone in the US still on the Starlink wait list?

We just returned from a week @ the beach, first time w/ Starlink, great! I put the WIFI and PS in the side compartment of the RV that has a power receptacle and a small opening in the floor to run the Ethernet cable through. Put the antenna on top of the RV. App showed me the best alignment...

schneider xw pro air filter service?

Cleaned the filters on the XW Pro's for the first time today. Inverters have been in service for about 3 years, installed in a shed. Did not look plugged up, just dirty. High temperature here will be 96°f in a few days, so cleaning should provide all the air flow possible. I used compressed...

What do you use to clean a sticky pollen panel?

PV production is currently effected by all the layers of pollen & other crap that has collected on my panels. I use the Ryobi foam cannon & their soap w/ the pressure washer. I leave the foam on the panel for 5 or 10 minutes, so as to loosen up the deposits. Spray it off w/ the hose, very good...

Just installed some EasyStarts on 5 ton AC

That is what we did, put a Micro-Air EasyStart on the 4T compressor, no changes to the air handler. Also put some of the other things on the solar: 2-pool pumps, well pump, water heater. Made a BIG difference in the Summer electric bill.

What was your most interesting recent non solar project?

Two recent projects: Outdoor shower: Summer in the tropics, working outside, it will be nice to cool off, and wash off, especially after mowing the yard, which I normally do in months starting with "J". Diesel repairs: My 25 year old Diesel Ford van has almost 300k miles on it. Hoping to...

    Mounting/moving heavy wall-mounted batteries

    Prepping for impending grid outage

Yes, when the grid to inverter breaker is closed, grid events are seen by the inverters. I open the breaker in cases where risk is present. Even though I find the web site https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en.html virtually incomprehensible, it is possible to obtain some advance warning of...
