Valence U27-12XP Internal SOC accuracy issue. Can I fix it?

Problem Solved! I shut down the solar panels and shore power and just ran the batteries overnight. They're all reading 83.1% SOC now. So it looks like I just need to use the batteries more while building out our school bus conversion.

Valence U27-12XP Internal SOC accuracy issue. Can I fix it?

I'll try running off the batteries for a few days and then charging to full. In the meantime I hope for more information on the U27-XP batteries specifically. If you had to take a guess (or if you know) what would be the conventional way of resetting the columb counters in a 2s3p LifePo battery...

Valence U27-12XP Internal SOC accuracy issue. Can I fix it?

That could be, I hadn’t heard of a columb counter before. I’ll need to figure out how to do that on the U27-XP internal BMS. The one battery at 23% I started topping off at 1amp and it drove one of the cells over 4v pretty quickly, way too fast for a battery at 23%. I’m surprised that didn’t...

    Charging 12v LiFePO4 w/ car alternator (mppt/pwm/boost converter)

I'm using a Sterling Power Products battery to battery charger for a similar application. In my case, the alternator and service batteries are 12v and the house batteries are 24v. They're a little pricy new, but I found one on eBay for quite a bit less.

    Valence XP Super Thread

I started a thread in the general battery discussion area, and perhaps it would have been better posted here, as it concerns Valence U27-XP batteries and diagnostics reporting an erroneous state of charge. I don't want to double-post the thread, so here is a link to it: Can I fix it?

Valence U27-12XP Internal SOC accuracy issue. Can I fix it?

I have a bank of six Valence wired 2S3P all wired to busbars with identical cables. I top-charged all batteries individually, and they are showing full, but the Valence diagnostic software is showing one battery at 22% and another at 46%. The individual cell voltages are similar to the ones...

Growatt 24V SPF 3000TL LVM AC Pass-Through with No Batteries Connected?

I'm circling back on this issue, and I'd like to hear some thoughts on my idea. For background, my Growatt is installed in a skoolie, currently parked in my front yard and plugged into shore power from my woodshop. With temperatures dipping below 32°F (it was in the low teens this past week) I...

Growatt 24V SPF 3000TL LVM AC Pass-Through with No Batteries Connected?

I think I might add a couple of small 12v agm batteries to switch from the LiFePo, that way I will still have my 12v dc power as well. :-)

Growatt 24V SPF 3000TL LVM AC Pass-Through with No Batteries Connected?

We're building out a skoolie for full-time travel/living. Right now, the bus is primarily operating on shore power and everything is good, for the most part. I have been disconnecting the battery bank at night because it's below 32°F and I don't want to destroy the LiFePo battery bank by...

Troubleshooting Growatt SPF 3000 24v AC Output

PROBLEM SOLVED! I appreciate the input from everyone. In the process of gathering data, I found that I had setting 04 set to enable. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but I have almost no load on 120v right now, and the reciprocating saw I plugged in to test with probably wasn't on long enough...

Troubleshooting Growatt SPF 3000 24v AC Output

Correct. The ac bypass works, the inverter does not. Battery bank is at or near 100%, over 400 amps available but currently fused at 80 amps while I test things out. I have Utility in the settings normally, but I changed to SBU when I realized there was an issue. I have my pup out on the...

Troubleshooting Growatt SPF 3000 24v AC Output

I just installed my electric power center for our RV conversion, and everything has gone great, except for one weird thing. The Growatt does not output 120v AC when running on just batteries and solar. It works fine when plugged into shore power. Everything else works. Batteries charge and...

My first off-grid system design, how am I doing?

I did get a chance to check some 2/0 wire multi strand today, at a 180° bend it required a minimum of 5 inches of space between my rows of batteries. I could work with that.

My first off-grid system design, how am I doing?

Great! Thank you! I didn't know about the multiplier for conversion efficiencies so I couldn't understand how you were arriving at 150 amps. I will be using the GroWatt 24v/3k inverter as well. I think Southwire's calculator is the most conservative of all of the calculators and charts I have...

My first off-grid system design, how am I doing?

Can I ask how you arrive at 150 amps? I am trying to understand all of this better. It seems like ampacity charts and calculators are all over the map. I've seen 4 gauge to 3/0 gauge for the same application which only makes me dig deeper. 3/0 seems like overkill for the battery to battery. My...

My first off-grid system design, how am I doing?

I have 3 questions... In the process of determining my wire sizes and lengths for wiring my batteries series-parallel, I realized that there are more gaps in my understanding. I have an enclosed space for my LiFePo4 batteries and I want to keep them as close together as possible. They will be...

Thank you for that clarity. I feel like I'm getting closer to having my parts list nailed down.

My first off-grid system design, how am I doing?

Thanks guys. I was not clear on the full purpose of the fuse, was I protecting the batteries, the inverter, the dc to dc converter, the wires, or what combination? I will change to a 200a fuse unless I arrive at a different understanding. Another question: Would you go with a 30a Main Breaker...

Do you think 400a is the correct size for this setup?

I appreciate all of the insight being shared on this forum! It doesn't always work out that way. ;-)

My first off-grid system design, how am I doing?

I do plan to add a dc to dc for charging while driving, but I figured I would wait until after I get all of this working. With almost 10kw of battery, it'll probably take 2 good days of sun to charge from 10% to 90%.

My first off-grid system design, how am I doing?

The batteries are LiFePo4, and yeah, I was redrawing the battery layout and forgot to series-parallel The system is 24v at 414a. I updated the drawing. :)

My first off-grid system design, how am I doing?

Right, 70 out at 12v, 35 in at 24v. So I should go with a 40amp fuse on the input side and stick with the breaker on the output side.

My first off-grid system design, how am I doing?

Here's a question: If you were going to swap out the Growatt with Victron, what would your setup look like? I am pondering this just in case we cook the Growatt and want to go a different way.

My first off-grid system design, how am I doing?

It sounds like your setup is not far from ours. We don't have much that needs to run 120v all night, so unless we're running the mini-split I believe we can power down the Growatt at night and just run everything 12v until we need AC for something. I'm not sure if that's good for the Growatt...

My first off-grid system design, how am I doing?

Thank you for sharing that link. There's a lot of good info there. I was planning to wire my solar panels as either parallel or series/parallel, and since the open circuit voltage is 39.9v I could possibly go either way, but to be safe perhaps I should stick to series/parallel. I am going with...

My first off-grid system design, how am I doing?

My wife and I are converting a 30' school bus into an RV that will be our traveling retirement home once we downsize. I'm almost done with the plumbing, and soon it will be time to focus on the electric. The heart of the system is a Growatt off-grid solar converter. The battery bank is...
