    PG&E \ Off-Grid System Design

I thnk you have it right in terms of a non grid tied system and PG&E is out of that loop. I am wonding about the 8 415V panels feeding 30 KW of power . I am feeding 24 400w panesl to a 22.5 Kw battery bank and in winter we need all of them. We are 5 hours north of your location just north of...

Can you “trick” rapid shutdown devices to allow solar production for mini split during power outage?

I have zero reason now to activate my system thru the CCA. The optimizers are working and thats all I need them to do, I never need rapid shut down. If I have a wildfire I will go to ground mount and to solarc and throw the off switches..We get power outags about avering 7 times a year herd in...

Can you “trick” rapid shutdown devices to allow solar production for mini split during power outage?

I think a call to Tigo is needed to get to the bottom of this. In theory you could supply the CCS with solar power/battery power and never have it shut down. The device is made for firefighters I belive to access the roof after power shuts off and have a dead system. That said if you have grid...

Can you “trick” rapid shutdown devices to allow solar production for mini split during power outage?

It appears to me that 110v or 24v can power it up. Once poewered up it can never be set back to off and needs power forever.. The tigos optimze without this system turned on ,you just cannot see whats up on the web which is what I have been doing for years now .

Can you “trick” rapid shutdown devices to allow solar production for mini split during power outage?

Ok so in the photo is my tigo power supply-. You are saying that the small box on the left is a step down transformer that knocks the feed thru the breaker on right to some DC voltage (your link did not work). I can meter this to find out if its 24 or 48 v.. For my application (no inspectors...

Can you “trick” rapid shutdown devices to allow solar production for mini split during power outage?

I thgink once the tiro system is powered up with 110v and the power goes out it shuts down and thats that. Not sure what is meant by using DC to power it up?Its off and staying off unitl 11110v is restored

What Mini-Split did you use, and Why?

Also if you are doing your own buy the hvac torque wrench metric set. Its a must have to get it right for line sets.

What Mini-Split did you use, and Why?

One note on mini spits is surge suppression . The best is to have a unit close to your compressor which has delicate curcuit board controls that get fried easy. I learned about these from Hvac friends . Mars makes ones that connect to your power box feeding the unit power .They pug into a knock...

What Mini-Split did you use, and Why?

I have 3 mr cools. I'm just finishing the 3rd install. I have a smaller 110 v 12k unit about 6 years old (second or 1st generation)and an 18k unit put in in 2021 3rd Generation 220v . and now another 4th generation 18k 22v unit. I have done custom installs hiding the extra line sets in attic or...

Can you “trick” rapid shutdown devices to allow solar production for mini split during power outage?

I never turned on my Tigos with power .Went thru all that work with the wiring and never activated them. They optimize without it anyway. I want solar power when the power is out . I have 3 mini splits now myself for heating and cooling. If its a fire I can manually shut it off. I have a grid...

    Heat Pump water Heaters

Our 3 mini spits in winter are what we heat with ,with all our solar power and extra batteries. I'm a bit worried at .43cents a KW we will eat up that gas cost pretty fast and start paying big tome for power in winter .Any leftover power now goes to the 80 gallon solar preheat tank in a...

    Heat Pump water Heaters

Ok I totaled up my gas usage in dollars for the last year-it was $1,400, Thats split between cooking (gas stove and oven) forced air heating -Low use as wek have mini splits and a pellet stove but do use it on cold mornings to take the chill off water heating (as noted have a solar asset system...

All hot water pipes are fully insulated and that smart pump moves water extremely slowly or any speed when needed (7$ a year to operate) can be installed on any water heater with a drain.

    Heat Pump water Heaters

Yes I'm aware they cool the space which does me zero good-If I could fit inside our small house I would but alas that not happening space wise . Heat Pump water Heaters

First let me explain my whole system so you can see the whole picture. I have since 1983 had 2 4x8 solar hot water panels south facing on my roof is what's know to us old timers as a drain back system . That is when its gets cold or in my case nearly every night on a timer its drains down so it...

    Efficiency issue or...????

Right now with the low sun here in Extreme Nortnern California on the coast our panels only get full sun exposure for 4 hours a day.. 10ish to 2 pm. Some days this will not charge our battery bank. (9,600 watts) 24x 400 amp panels. The batteries are 3 x 7.5 Kilovualts=22.5kw. I'm thinking your...

On another battery note. My 3 kilovolt batteries (7.8kw each) did not talk to each other . That is two are version threes and one is version 4. When I had just two 3s they talked fine and the new this past year version 4 would not talk to the 3rs and the charge was not equal with them all. I...

Is there any way to make money from excess power apart from selling back to grid?

I put my extra power into an 80 gallon solar water tank that preheats our gas water heater. That is a 3,000 watt electic stinger in mid tank. That tank also gets hot water from two 4x8 panels (solar hot water panels) on roof

Sol-Ark not a good company to deal with 12k

Yes 10 ply tires are a must 80 PSI type E . I run Michelins on my 1 ton van and 3/4 ton truck. I like the belted side wall ones -I order them from Costco. Been running them for decades-Get about 70k on them if you rotate them well
