    DC Ground Fault Protector

Building 4000W solar array to power two EG4 6000XP inverters in parallel with two EG4 PowerPro batteries in parallel. I read the NEC requires a DC ground fault protector to disconnect PV+ line to prevent fires. So I called Signature Solar tech help and they don’t sell the device and do not...

Fuse recommendation for 48V Victron Inverter

Yes I had a Lynx distributor but I wasn’t able to find the Victron MPPT manual’s recommended 80-100A Megafuse in 58V size as Victron doesn’t make 58V mega fuses that small. I ditched the Lynx and will use an 80-100A 48V ANL fuse as I am unfamiliar with NH fuses.

Fuse recommendation for 48V Victron Inverter

    1/0 gauge ampacity is 170A X 1.25 = 212A fuse - nearest is 200A T class fuse battery line. MPPT line 70A X 1.25 = 87.5A fuse - I have used ANL fuses before - can I continue to do so using one with a close match to 87.5?

    Good video on PV grounding

One more question regarding NEC 690.47(A)(1) - most PV systems are functionally grounded rather than solidly grounded. Mike Holt says that for functionally grounded systems, the inverter equipment grounding conductor is connected to the grounded distribution equipment. This connection is used...

    Good video on PV grounding

Thanks good to know 6AWG is overkill. I will eventually have two ground mounted arrays, each delivering Vmp 310V PV array current 13A. What size copper do you recommend?

    Good video on PV grounding

I have a 4000W ground mounted array >100 feet from the house. Even though NEC 690.47(A)(1) says that “the PV output circuit is the only connection to ground required for the PV system” do you recommend I still run 6AWG copper ground wire with my PV cables in a buried conduit to join with the...

    Endless Pool off grid setup

The 5 HP pump runs the swim current for the Endless Pool and is built in and cannot be switched out. To get over the inrush surge that could overwhelm a high frequency inverter, I wonder if placing a Soft Start on the power line could reduce the surge to tolerable levels. I see that Will Prowse...

    Earth-ground off-grid electric panel

Thank you all. I bought two copper ground rods and drove both 8 feet down 10 minutes each about 7 feet apart - review of my house plan showed the riprap boulders were further south from the site of the ground rods. I connected the two rods with a 6 AWG copper wire. Problem solved.

    Earth-ground off-grid electric panel

Planning off-grid 240V 25A EV charge system with EG4 6000XP inverter and EG4 PowerPro 14.3 kWh battery in my house garage. My house is built on riprap (boulders to raise it above a flood plain) which I cannot drive an 8 foot grounding rod into. Nearby is a steel garage on concrete pad - I...

    Mounting panels with unistrut

Great use of pipe. Question what did you buy to connect the transverse 2” pipe to the vertical pipe - looks like you mounted something on the top of the steel pipe and connected two U bolts. Home Depot?

    Outdoor rated inverter

I bought a Midea window air conditioner model MAW12AV1QWT 12,000 BTU $420 online Costco but in the store I got it for $280. I built an extension to my “shed” putting the AC 2 feet from the electrical equipment so my butt can fit there for maintenance work. It works great, effortless cooling the...

    Outdoor rated inverter

Thank you all of you for your suggestions. I really don’t need a truly “certified outdoor” inverter and as a retiree, my budget can’t be in the thousands. I need a lowish power output pure inverter that can operate at the elevated temperature experienced in Phoenix - the inverter will be...

    EG4 6500 excessive idle consumption

Thank you..this helps me understand better to expect the 30+% drop in battery and I will get another battery. I don’t see such a large a drop with the Giandel inverter in my garage or with my Progressive Dynamic inverter in my RV or with Victron.

EG4 6500 with 48V Lifepower off grid cabling

Thanks…I am not charging when I am using inverter load. I charge when I am RV sites with 30 A outlets or when visiting relatives with only 15 A outlets. I use the inverter when boondocking, ie when off the grid with no external power supply - like at a Walmart parking lot or a park with no...

EG4 6500 with 48V Lifepower off grid cabling

I agree - the AIMS charges at 18A. As Signature Solar recommended the charger be disconnected from making contact with the EG4 battery after each charge, I wanted to know if any sort of DC circuit breaker would work. As for using an AC outlet to charge the EG4 Lifepower, I kept tripping my home...

EG4 6500 with 48V Lifepower off grid cabling

I use a 2 space Square D Homeline 70 amp for my AC out and I could get another for the single AC line in as I do not wire the setup directly to the grid - I only plug in to charge the Lifepower battery. i want to leave my AIMS DC 48V charger connected to the 48V Lifepower battery so could I...

Confused about how much solar I can use

Started with Renogy Rover40A controller. PV array four 100w panels in series-parallel with calculated Imp 9.8A Vmp 40.8V, well under load specs for the Rover 40A. After 6 weeks the unit melted down, the display failed, the PV wires on a 20 foot run were very hot. I shut down the system, removed...
