    18kpv input vs output question

13kW output from 16kW (STC rating) of panels seems pretty good to me. I'd say that is about maximum output. Does anybody regularly see output that approaches the STC rating for your panels? I usually allow 20-25% of the STC rating for system loss.

Want to purchase Solar Panels from China and import to USA...

Many years ago I imported a pallet of product from China to Los Angeles. While everything worked out it was time consuming to deal with. Once the goods were released from the customs warehouse they needed to be picked up immediately or incur storage charges. Only I could not get a release date...

Series vs parallel panel connection on outback fm80

You have it right. 2 parallel strings of 5 panels in series. Only one 10-amp PV breaker needed.

    Step Up/ Down Transformer

If you're being inspected anything over 600 volt will probably require an EE to draw the plans. You could do a 240V step up to 480 volt and then down to 120/240 on the other end. Benefit being the inverter will only see 240 so no imbalance if using a HF inverter. Drawback is the expense of a 600...

Failed Inspection - need some advice and guidance for NEC 690 infractions.

One thing I can't see in your pictures is the ground connection from the panel to ground rod. Looks like plastic (?) flex into the side of an LB. I'd clean that up and make sure it complies with local code and standards. Where I was it was typically required to run the ground conductor in metal...

Failed Inspection - need some advice and guidance for NEC 690 infractions.

You only need grounding bushings or lock nuts if the conductors are over 250 volt to ground and the conduit enters through a concentric knock out. Use a regular lock nut on each side of the box and return the grounding bushings.

    Jumper leads for battery cables?

Most consumer grade jumper cables are thin wire surrounded by thick insulation. This is a great marketing strategy as it makes the cables appear to be heavier wire then they are. It works fine for jump starting a car since the load on the wire is short duration (typically a few seconds if a car...

Survived divorce, 13kW 1040Ah system is finally done!

I would be concerned about water intrusion into the box at the panels. And then flowing down thru the "conduit" and into your basement. Always a good practice to have cables exit from the bottom of an outdoor junction box especially when waterproof hardware is not available.

You can unbrick with the Conext configuration tool. I believe that the Insight Gateway can also do this with later firmware.

Anyone in the US still on the Starlink wait list?

Starlink speeds will vary as the satellites are moving quickly overhead and handing off the connection between satellites as they move out of or in to your cell. Your wisp connection will always have a more stable speed. Our Starlink speeds have increased as more satellites come online but they...

Anyone running a mini-split only on off grid solar?

Four 1.5T (Mirage and Midea) units in mstr Bdrm, kitchen, living room and garage; two 1T (Midea) in guest bdrms and one 2T (York) in garage. Problem running a washing machine on solar?

I've seen this happen with a neighbor. Washer (and its replacement) wouldn't run with an old Trace inverter. Ran fine on generator power. Runs fine now with the new OutBack inverter. We have our Samsung washer connected to an APC Line-R power conditioner. Don't know how much it really helps...

Failed Inspection - need some advice and guidance for NEC 690 infractions.

The inspector is not going to tell you how to fix / install anything. Not his job and he and his employer (the AHJ) probably prohibit it as they would them create liability for themselves. NFPA, the publisher of the NEC, is a private standards organization. They only write their best practices...

Failed Inspection - need some advice and guidance for NEC 690 infractions.

They're not necessarily required on every installation but can be in some situations over 250 volts. The metal conduit has to be electrically bonded to ground. That won't happen with plastic enclosures (or non approved metal). Easy way is just to loop the ground conductor through a lug on a bushing.

Failed Inspection - need some advice and guidance for NEC 690 infractions.

If that flex conduit is all plastic you will need to replace it with metal conduit or metal flex. Probably cheaper to use EMT from j-box to disconnect and use metal flex between disconnect and AIO. Use grounding bushings on all the box connectors and run the ground wire in every conduit. Or run...

    Schneider Insight Firmware 1.18

Probably yes. Schneider has pulled the 1.18 firmware from their website without explanation. Others have reported problems with the upgrade. I'm waiting as there would seem to be issues that need to be/ are being addressed by Schneider.

    Schneider XW Generator Input Experience

When the generator sags under load the rpm drops with a resulting decrease in frequency. This causes the XW to drop the generator input if it goes below min qualifying frequency. Generator support is based on current not frequency as the XW always has to match the input frequency and voltage. I...

Putting the pieces together. Mexico community building

It pays to shop. I recently bought a bunch of 540W solar panels in Ensenada. $228 each including tax. Same panel in the USA was $343 + tax. I know you can get Schneider in La Paz as a friend in Cabo has ordered. Sorry, don't know who he bought from.

Putting the pieces together. Mexico community building

You're in BCS so my suggestion would be to discuss your needs with some of the solar dealers in La Paz. Ask around for recommendations. Then put their proposals on here for some helpful review and criticisms. Unless you are DIY and willing to import the products from the USA one of the issues...

    MC4 Alternatives

MC4 connectors are only rated for 100 mating cycles. While there are better quality options available for simplicity I would consider making up a couple of mc4 to SAE 2-pole adapters and attach those to the panels. Then use a SAE y adapter and additional connector(s) to complete the cable run...

    Installing new 228kwh LiFepo4 batteries

This is a rather large system potential by your equipment list. If you have to ask this question then I have to ask if you have done the necessary engineering and design. Have you or someone else with the knowledge done so? Wire size is based on expected load current and provided overcurrent...

Solar house generator I started DIY back in 2000 - My path from Trace to Xantrex (on FLA battery) to XW Pro inverters on Tesla Model S batteries

Schneider MPPT60 Over Current Shutdown Issues

8.83 x 7 = 61.81 amps input. If you get cloud effect or cold weather you might be more. So I suspect the MPPT is seeing high input current (over the 60 amp max) and going into self protection mode. 5250 watts is quite a bit over paneling. From the manual "Although the solar charge controller...

Solar Assistant Pi Died After 3 Days

Instead of the cheap buck converts I have started to use isolated dc-dc converters from MeanWell. I get mine from Mouser. 5vdc for the Pi's, 12vdc for the opnsense box and Insight Gateway and 24vdc for some network gear. Not to say that they are failure proof but maybe better odds of not passing...

    Remote welding

I weld all the time using my schneider xw6848+. I currently have a a AlphaTig 200 and a Vulcan MigMax 215. Bother are inverter welders.. I previously used a Lincoln 180 Mig and an old tombstone stick welder (xfmer based welders). I have no idea if either of these would work on a HF inverter.

Dual Schneider Dual XW Pro 6848 power imbalance

Did you (or the tech that installed) set the output voltages on the inverters? There is a specific range the output voltages must match by. That is part of the setup requirements and requires the Conext Configuration Tool. It cannot be done on the Gateway.

Anyone using newer Schneider 80/600 or 100/600 SCC's with older XW6048 - will they 'talk' to each other?

Have you reviewed the cc manual. The scp is mentioned in the manual so I suspect the cc will work with the scp. The inverter doesn't control the cc to my knowledge. The cc takes its operating state from the battery voltage or the battery monitor if you have one.
